I would go to this site and it is really free I have used it before. It is really great for when you are not at home or no word processor software in your case because it is all on the web and you have multiple saving options.
http://download.openoffice.org/
Also, if by chance you don't have a printer you can go to this site from Kinko's I use it all the time and love it!!!
docstore.kinkos.com
don't type in any http or www just, docstore.kinkos.com it also is very self explanatory but if you need help feel free to send me a message I again use it all the time when I am away from my PC.
Hope this is helpful have a good one!!!
OE, really has a great suggestion as well if you are not wanting to use the web.

The previous answers are terrific. If you have limited need for complex word processing I suggest you try Microsoft's Wordpad which is part of the Windows Accessories package and should be in your system already if you have a version of the system after 98. Select "Start", "All programs", "Accessories" and then "Wordpad" from the drop down list.

Download, for free & legal, Open Office. You'll get an entire office suite including a word processor.

You can use Notepad which is a component of Microsoft Windows. But it does not have anything except basic text, no rich text features.
I support the previous answers about downloading free software. Go and search for STAROFFICE from SUN Microsystems. I have heard good things about it.

Go to www.download.com, there's a few on there but I use AbiWord. It's nearly the same as Word, more than adequate for your CV. Alternatively you can just use WordPad that comes with Windows

Good news - Open Office (free download) has been available for years. You can hardly tell the difference between Open Office word processing and Word.

Here is a very good word processor that is free. This office suite works as well as MS Office and will open just about all file extensions.

Every version of windows comes with Worpad in accessories.
Or go to Openoffice.org for a whole suite.
Or for just a good word processor go to http://www.abisource.com/
for ABIword.
