the recommendation by pediatrics is 3 yrs old but it depends on your child
if your child is climbing out of their crib there is a chance of getting seriously hurt
but by moving them to a toddler bed they need to have the ability to stay in bed & not get up and wander around which could also be a hazard
My son moved into a toddler bed at 2 years but we placed it beside our bed so we could hear if he got up at night plus we were right there when he cried and needed reassurance

I work at a day care and we can put children on a cot at 10 months, while most of the time we do wait until 12 months. My daughter was in a toddler bed at the age at 1 and 1/2, I think that parents like to keep their children in a baby bed for the wrong reasons, such as keeping them contained so they wouldn't have to put up with them. You will know when your child is ready to move to a bed. When they start climbing on the rail and getting out, they are ready and they can get hurt.

Depends on the child but if your child is climbing out of the crib it's time to move to a toddler bed. It gets to be dangerous. I moved my son to a toddler bed around 2 because I had a daughter who needed the crib and we made him the "big boy" in his "big boy" bed.

My daughter went into a toddler bed shortly before her 2nd birthday- So about 22-23 months. Really depends on the kid- my doctor always told me that those who try to climb out or reach 35 inches in height (with the mattress lowered) should probably transition into a toddler bed. My daughter never tried to climb out, but she's really tall for her age, so in she went. I know a boy who was climbing out at 1 and a girl who is still in a crib at 4, so it really depends on the child and parent's comfort level.

I moved my kids to toddler beds when they could no longer be contained in their cribs. That is to say...they could climb out of the crib (even with the mattress down all the way and the rail raised) and since that wasn't safe and they were going to get out of bed anyway, I switched to a toddler bed--something close to the ground so at least my kids wouldn't be risking life and limb to get out of bed in the morning.

Guess that depends on the child. We put our child from a crib, to a bed with protective rails at 18 months. Of course, there were a couple of different cribs in that due to the amount of growth that takes place.

I think the best advice would be a soon as they are able to climb out of a crib. My 2 kids started at about 11/2 years old. Remember to get the rail gaurds too.

We put my son in a toddler bed at age 2. We gave it to him as a birthday present so that he would think that it was a great idea to use it. We used the toddler bed for about a year, and now he has his very own twin bed. We bought him Spider Man sheets, so he would hopefully want to sleep in it. Fortunately we didn't have any difficulty, and he transitioned both times very nicely. Now, whenever anyone comes over he has to show them his Spider Man bed!

It truly is a judgment call. Depending how they are doing in their crib. If they are trying to climb out and putting themselves in danger, it's time for a toddler bed!
