I'm looking for opinions here. I am a Christian, and partially know the answer, but want to here what you have to say. How can obedience to God bring freedom to a person's life?

No, I'm not implying anything about any other person or group. I was just asking for opinions from Christians because I'm a Christian and could better relate to the answer. Everyone has the opportunity to be close to God. Peace.

Salvation brings freedom from the penalty of sin

Growing in our relationship with Christ and obedience brings increasing freedom from the power of sin in our lives.

Heaven will bring us freedom from the very presence of sin.

THAT's freedom!!!!

By being obedient to God we are following his word. We can not follow the Word of God without first the spirit drawing us.

When we live a righteous life, according to the Word of God, we have the spirit of God living in us. We must have the Holy Ghost living in us.

2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Hopefully this analogy explains my position.

There are two children in one family one disobeys constantly and one tries sometimes unsuccessfully to follow the desires of his parents.

The disobedient child will continually be punished and will not be given anymore rights and freedom because he has not demonstrated responsibility with what little he has.

The "obedient" child tries to obey and as a result the parent will give him more responsibility and freedom to do what he wants.

I believe that it is similar within a Christian’s life. The more we understand our role here on earth, by being obedient to God, the more freedom we will have. To me this makes sense because He created us.

In this life, being obedient to God in the best and worst of times, when dealing with people, in business, with family, and with self is not always easy, but it spares us living with shoulda, woulda, couldas of doubt, guilt, & shame. As Christians, we KNOW that people will steer us wrong, disappoint us, hurt us (intentional or not) but that God who knows all, sees all, and hears all will not. And we have God's assurance that He will protect us, defend us, bless us, and reward us not only in this life but in Heaven for doing as He would have us do.

Guilt and shame for having cheated someone, lied to or about someone, harming someone verbally, emotionally, or physically are HEAVY burdens that weigh HEAVILY on our conscience (The Holy Spirit) and our conscience does not forget and can not forgive until we admit them, repent them, and attempt when possible to make things right with man and with God.

There is no lighter step, no sweeter sleep, and no happier countenance than for those who are at peace with man, themselves, The Holy Spirit, and with God Almighty.

That is a freedom that material wealth and position can NOT buy and only the Holy Spirit and God Almighty can and do give in this life and the next.

Hmmm...are you implying that only "Christians" can truly be connected to G_d and bring freedom to a person's life? Free in what way? I'm curious since I'm a "Jew", but I don't peddle myself around calling myself "a Jew" to ask a question. This thought is very narrow and sad. There are plenty of other religons in the world. Many that bring people close to G_d. I feel close to G_d, but I also know "G_d" gives me strength to bring inner peace and freedom. In other words, believing in G_d or being obedient alone will not bring you freedom. Before you think of me as some lost sole that does not know what she is talking about because I'm not a "Christian", I assure you I do. I'm you average joe mom with a average job in an average city. I believe in G_d, but only one G_d. That is our difference.

Obedience to God free us from being slaves to sin. Therefore if you are obedient to God's will, you are free of every kind of sin because sin does not control you nor has any influence upon you. I hope to have made you think the difference between being a slave to something that holds us back and freely fallow the path Jesus Christ has shown us.

I think it's similar to how America is a free nation, but there are laws in place that we have to follow in order to remain free. Obedience to God brings order to a person's life, just as the laws of our nation bring order to it.

And then, when a person serves God, he is free from the law of sin and death.

For me, It gives me freedom from all the worries.God will provide for me in every corner of my life.Be it family, friends, food, clothing even my job and money. There is nothing that he doesn't guide me through.Being a single Mom with two kids, there have been many times I didn't know where something was going to come from or how I was going to get through it.Than suddenly something has opened up that you didn't even see coming and it was all provided for me.God gives me what I need to survive in this world. And he also is giving what I need to survive in Heaven. There is no aspect of my life that he doesn't or hasn't touched and ultimately has giving me freedom from the worries of this life. NO matter what it is.

A train is free to travel while it's on the tracks. Mankind is free as long as they are fulfilling their purpose in life, which is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. But if the train jumps the tracks, there may be a feeling of freedom, but it merely gets stuck in the mud.

It definitely can and does bring complete "freedom to a person's life" but ONLY WHEN he understands what obedience is, and how it is effected. In other words, if one tries his hardest to "obey" and "be obedient," especially if he proclaims he is doing it for the Lord,he is just setting himself up to be a tool in Satan's hands.

None of us are capable of being obedient in our own flesh (at least not for long....and even then, when we are really "obedient" we usually have to make up for our "good behavior" by being extra bad in hidden ways)

All this to say, the only way we can please God is by continually turning to Him for wisdom, ability to resist temptation (which is one of his many great promises), staying in constant prayer, thinking less of ourselves and loving others more....etc.

But the MINUTE, we "DECIDE" to be obedient, and especially if we tell others about our intentions to be obedient, and set up "accountability partners" etc. we are treading in dangerous waters. The devil loves it, and starts rubbing his hands together. The one thing he can't stand is if we go off to a private place and consult with God himself about what his obedience entails.

Much better to be "accountable" to those we are naturally around...our spouses, our children, our good friends who really see us as we are, in real life.

The issue is not AT ALL about "representing Christ" (because what human being could adequately EVER do that? ......except One of course) the question is about "working out our own salvation with fear and trembling." Christ is witness to even the secret motivations of our hearts.....that's why He said "Rend your hearts, and not your garments." In other words, don't have a bunch of outward signs proving your faithfulness, piety and *obedience*, instead, allow me to daily search your heart and convict you of your REAL sins.

I know this was a really long answer to a seemingly straightforward question, but this is a DEEP question and I think it is one that constantly pits Christians against non-believers and even other Christians.

Thanks for asking.
