It is so deadly because when it gets inside you the tip of the bullet slows down but the back dosent so it breaks into peices causing a lethal hit.

I assume that you meant to ask how come this rifle is deadly even if you're hit by only one round.
The M16 is an assault rifle which fires a very high speed cartridge. The speed of the bullet, which is what does the damage, often causes it to fragment when it hits the target. The velocity and possible fragmentation make it a deadly cartridge.
Please note that it is the cartridge that does the damage. The M16 is no more lethal with one cartridge than a bolt action rifle firing the same .223 caliber round.

Aaron and Durial are correct. By the way, the typical hunting rifle, like a 30-06 or 270 (I don't want to list every gun) are much more deadly. One thing to keep in mind is that the military is required by the Geneva Convention to use only full metal jackets, a lead round completely surrounded with copper. This makes the bullet pass through the target as smooth as possible, I know that sounds strange, but hunters use hollow point or ballistic rounds that will expand upon impact with the target causing maximum damage, these rounds are not permitted by the Geneva Convention.

Its not, it depends where you get hit and at what range you are hit from. The M16 uses 5.56mm rounds which compared to the good old 7.62 are more like pea shooters. Anyway the M16 compared to say the AK47 is more like a toy. and also it would be pretty pointless if it was'nt deadly it is after all designed to kill people.

The M16 fires a .223 caliber round. since this round is so small when it hits a body it will start tumbling causing massive internal bleeding. The larger .308 round for the M14 had more mass and would go straight threw. So it is mot the rifle that is so deadly it is the bullet.

The lightweight, high velocity round has high impact energy. When the nose of round hits the body, the tip bends and the body flips around. the larger cross-section delivers more energy into the surrounding tissue then the bullet goes off in an odd angle. The kicker is when the bullet tries to straighten up, bending stress causes the bullet to shatter and scatter fragments over a wide area.
I think that is a pretty bad result from one round. Not bad for a rifle people roundly derided when it was issued.

The M16 is so deadly because it is gas powered so the high pressure gas from the Cartridge extracts the spent case at a faster rate, 750 to 900 rounds per minute, and has the range of 550m (600yd).

Military rifles are not deadly compared to many non-"assault-weapons." Go buy a shotgun and you've got more lethality at close range.
The military can't use hollow-point ammo or exploding ammo though the technology has existed for years. It was outlawed at the Geneva Convention which we follow--though many claim we don't.
Give me my 10mm handgun with Federal hydrashock. If I hit you, you will have a much higher chance of death than if you get hit with the M14 I wager.

The lighter round is actually less deadly than other rounds like a 7.62. Because the round is so light and traveling at such high velocity that it ricochets around the body causing massive trauma. This trauma is designed to cause casualties that are hard to treat and take enemy soldiers out of the battle through their wounds.
Wounded enemy are a burden to their support system, dead soldiers are not.
