you probably need an evap or a drier.These are the two most common parts to fail on the 850's and 70 series.I have changed 5 evaps this season so far and 3 driers.The evap job complete taxes in is about 1000. Cad the drier with the hose to the compressor with tax will run you about 600.CAD both prices are installed with gas charge put in.

My 1996 Chevy Blazer the condensor failed. Was going to cost $1500. Sold the car and took the loss.

About as much as the mechanics next vacation. You don`t know where he is going and we don`t know where you are either. Worse case means what? Everything has to be replaced? Not very likely. Best guess, between $100-$5000 based on your description
