I even have on no account fairly considered in any %s with helmets on. I even have considered those with a leather-based style of medicine surrounding their face, as have been our crews, many times to guard them from the wind and chilly for the duration of flight. a number of our plane flew at fairly extreme altitudes and it grew to become into under freezing in yhe plane. And if all and sundry has ever been in a B-17 could comprehend those plane are fairly open to the climate. i'm unsure all and sundry wore "crash" helmets in WW II as a actual crash helmet grew to become into no longer designed until previous due 1944 for the army and Airforce

They didn't have helmets they had skull caps. The radio ear phones were built into these caps. Thus they needed to use them to coordinate there attacks. Because they were such novice fliers they needed a experienced pilot to lead the flight of kamikazes to the target as they couldn't navigate themselves. Helmets weren't in use until the very late 1940's and early 50's with the advent of the jet and ejection seats made the helmet a necessity.

they didn't, crash helmets were not yet invented, but what they wear is a sort of a leather cap to protect them from extreme cold at high altitude.
