Is their a difference in the picture quality you will get from the higher priced cable? The brand I bought is Phillips and is gold plated, will I be able to get 1080 picture quality from my cable?

For a length of only a few feet, under 15 to 25, any cable should work. If you have a very high end set up or have to stretch the line across the room then the higher end cables would be necessary. If you spent over 10 thousand dollars on a TV, HI Dev DVD, Surround Sound, etc then the extra few hundred won't matter, but if you are like the majority of people the $40 cable is fine.

There is no reason to spend over $100 for HDMI cables no matter what advertising hype is used to sell them. Even $40 is a little high, but you certainly will have no problem with what you have. HDMI cables carry digital signals--if you get a picture at all, that is the best it can be regardless of the cable.

I use $4 cables from www.monoprice.com and $350+ Audioquest cables. They all work fine.

some have voltage stabilizers to help maintain the integrity of the original source image/material. I have cheapo ones..works fine! Just don't lick the tip and stick it in a light socket..no no! Also don't stick in your bunghole..
(:
