You know what makes people the happiest that is often over looked? Doing things for other people. Doing things for other people and making them happy compliments, errands, etc. Is the best feeling in the world. Everybody is to caught up in themselves and everyday problems, that we forget there are other people around us. One thing I do ,not to brag I don't even tell people I know that I do this. But it makes me so happy when I do it. When I go throught he toll booth I pay for the next 10 cars. I drive away slow to make sure the attendant doesn't rip me off. Then when I see all the cars going through without paying I speed up so they can't tell me thank you. THAT DEFEATS THE PURPOSE

Hiya,
If I wake up feeling crappy and depressed I try to get out and about to see people I know make me feel happy. I excercise say go for a run which always boosts endorphins to make you feel happier. I also do yoga which calms my mind and stills an anxiety.
Basically I will fill my day with chunks of things that make me feel happy, you may still feel down in between but I guess the longer you spend cheered up every day the easier it is to deal with the depression long term. It is all about learning how to self regulate your feelings and working towards finding solutions to the problems you have deep down causing the depression.
Good luck if this is a question which applies to you personally

First put on some music to lift your spirits while you get ready, then get on some gym clothes and sneakers and get a big bottle of water and go for a walk, walk briskly to boost endorphines, think only happy thoughts, like how pretty the trees are, and what it would be like to fly in the sky...if you have an mp3 player or walkman bring the upbeat music with you. Walk literally until you feel better! Sunlight is great for lifting your spirits...heck even if the sun isn't out the daylight its self is good for you. Also find a friend and ask for a great big hug...a nice long one too! When they hug you, take a deep breath...in then out....and tell yourself "someone loves me, and I will be happy today". You will feel better then!

I live alone so getting together with other people helps a lot when I feel down. If my home isn't "straight" I get busy and clean up. That always lifts my sprirts. I have two older neighbors, even older than me and I'm 60 yrs. old. I go and visit with them for they get few visitors and sometimes I am able to take them some type of food that I had on hand.
