Our Lord didn't look at appearances, as we often do. If He had, He would have only seen the two mites. Instead, He saw that little was much. Our Lord understood that the widow gave everything. She actually was giving what she herself needed. She was giving sacrificially. He saw what she was really giving.

This makes one stop and consider. Our Lord knows all aspects of what we give ourselves. Nothing is hidden from Him.

This widow came before the Lord and emptied herself of everything that she had. God sees and hears all that we do. Often we withhold what the widow was willing to give. What we fail to realize is that God is a ware of that we are not giving our all to Him. As Christians we would be so much better off if we just went to the Lord as the widow did and said. Here it is Lord, you can have it all. I am empty now and ready and willing for you to fill me with Your Spirit. God does not need our strength, nor are wisdom, All He really needs is a empty vessel.

Many people put in much more than she did.
But for them it did not mean that they would be totally broke!
Others who were as poor as the widow did not give because they were scared of having no money at all.

But this woman, though she only had two cents, wanted to give to God, and she did not hold back because by doing so she would have nothing.

God sees what is genuinely sacrifice for each person. God values the sacrifice we make to love him. Our sacrifice is really the only thing we can truly give, for all else is his and is ours only on loan for this life. But sacrifice is something else completely as it is completely ours to give. Proportion is the issue. A poor person might be making a great sacrifice giving a pittance whereas a richer person would have to give more to have her sacrifice be valued as highly.

He knew she was giving all she had while an onlooker might have thought that she was only giving a very small part of what she had.

She gave EVERYTHING that she had.. and the Lord KNEW that it was everything she had.. it did not matter that she gave less than everyone else.. in the Lord's eyes.. she gave more.
