My father invented the extended five year guarantee for Currys many years ago before anybody else had thought of doing it. He had discovered from the statistics that if something didn't go wrong in the first year it was very unlikely to go wrong in the next four years.

Their service company at the time was called Belchers . This was before they had been taken over by Sir Stanley and become part of the Dixon's group.

Apparently it was common practice if they were busy to just send the item back without repairing it and wait for it to come back in again.

Usually what it says. We bought a TV on the extended guarantee and it suddenly stopped working after about 15 months. Took it back to Curry's, the lady just checked that it was not working and told us to choose a replacement. For a few extra pounds we got a much better TV

That the product is protected for whatever the length of the guarantee. They will replace or fix it if it breaks down!
