They will want to make sure it is someone who doesn't teach about EVERYTHING in the Bible. They typically select only the warm and fuzzy parts and ignore all the nasty, violent stuff, since it would result in less money in the collection plate.

What?! Of COURSE it's up to the church! I've never heard of it NOT being up to the church! Every church I've ever attended has prayed for the right pastor when we needed one, and then let them preach a couple sermons before we committed to having them. After a couple of sermons, we voted to see whether we would be keeping them or not. The entire church congregation was invited to vote.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my life.

And my condolences over the loss of your pastor. That can be devastating.

It depends on how your church is set up. Some denomiations have rules regarding this, which usually say that the elders or leaders of the church do the choosing.

Our church has a consititution and by-laws regarding such things whether yours does or not I don't know. But I would say that the church should vote someone in who preaches the unwatered down scripture.

In Jesus Name

A church's only head should be Jesus or God. Having a pastor is wrong.
