123dildo,I am not without a sense of humour but I am hoping to return kitty to it's owners in one piece!!

It is a while since I owned a cat,I thought flea treatments were not suitable for kittens less than 3 months old, have I got this wrong?

You can get an appropriate treatment from your vet. Frontline Spray (not spot-on) is safe to use on kittens and puppies from 2 days of age.

I'm sure people are going to tell you to wash the kitten in Dawn Dish Soap - this of course would be a chemical as well!!! Don't bother with it, just go to the vets. With Frontline Spray, all the fleas will die within about half an hour and the kitten will then be flea-free for at least a month. Dawn Dish Soap does not prevent fleas, it only washes them off.

If you have other animals, you will need to flea treat them too, as they will now have fleas - and you'll need to spray your house as well.

EDIT: Flea combing does not control fleas - this method is for checking if an animal has fleas and for removing flea dirts. It does not get fleas off - it might move them a bit but they will jump back on! And NEVER wash an animal in human shampoo! How weird that that asker would suggest these when she knows about Frontline.

Not going to happen without chemicals whether from a flea collar or the application of something like Frontline(applied between the shoulder blades).
For heavens sake don't dust it with 7 as someone suggested. Cats clean and groom themselves by licking and anything within reach will be ingested and could cause harm.

Hi, the answer is simple. I have always used Teatree oil. You can buy teatree shampoo for cats and kittens. If you buy teatree oil buy the essential oil type which is brought from health shops, comes in a small dark bottle and says PURE ESSENTIAL OIL OF TEETREE on it. Its not exspensive. All i do is wash my cats and kitten in the shampoo and then once their almost dry i rub the oil (dont need too much) into their fur. Concentrate around the neck, between the legs, under the belly, around the start of the tail (bottom end). If you cant wash your kitten just use the oil as i have mentioned. Your kitten wont be too impressed about the smell but it wears off after about an hour and its the flea's that hate it the most. It also kills any eggs laid. If you dont wash your kitten first, then after an hour simply comb her fur and watch the dead little flea bodies cling to the comb. Id also suggest you wash her bedding at a high temperture too incase it has fleas and eggs in it.

Flee coming is the best non chemical way to control flees, but it seems kitty doesn't like it.

A bath will remove some but not all of the flees. I use human shampoo for bathing my pets.

If you can't flee comb him, and the bath doesn't remove enough of the flees, buy Frontline spray. Yes, it's a chemical, but it's safe for kittens. My vet uses it on very small kittens and puppies.

Don't ever use brands of flee and tick control that vet doesn't sell. Most are highly toxic.

Whenever you are unsure, ask your vet.

I have raised abandoned kittens too young for chemical flea products. I use Vaseline. Put a dab on your finger and comb through all the kittens fur. When you see a flea dab it with the Vaseline and it will die instantly. It takes a little time and patience but it works.

Caroline,
Here is a link to a website that specializes in natural pet products. It seems to have some good reviews. I hope it solves your problem.

7 Dust. You can get it in the Garden section at Wal-Mart. It is a powder and works great be careful not to get it in its eyes.
