If so, that would mean no more:

Fiji
Jamacia
Mexico
Africa

Sorry-I didn't mean to offend anybody...

I had just heard something and got confused.

Seashells-please do not make me out to sound like a bad person. I didn't realize how nieve I sounded.

What sparked my question was that I was watching a video about Jamacia-where they said that "rich" tourists can be seen vacationing next to Jamacians who are struggeling quite much, just to make ends meet. That's when I got confused.

No, by visiting and spending money in that country you are helping to boost their economy. In most of these countries the economy and jobs are based on tourism. I think it hurts them more if you go to an all inclusive and never frequent the local businesses.

Why would it be unethical?
The country is more than happy to have flourishing tourism,
I think many people from those countries feel hurt by your question. Besides you might be surprised when you get there and see that it is not QUITE like you imagined. All countries have poor places and if you are a rich tourist in a poor village many will flock around you hoping to get a small something out of you:). I mean poor people will be more than happy to have you around. They certainly won't expect the world from you if that's what you are afraid of.

You got confused! How would you feel if somebody said: I'm not going to Thursday's house because I am so rich and they are so poor it would be unethical. Surely somebody is richer than you in the world. It's not rocket science just use your common sense.

And one more thing: Not everybody poor would expect some photograph or something from you - assuming that would be bad. But all these things are so simple if you just think about them a little...

Fiji for instance depends on tourism for a lot of it's income so not going there could be construed as unethical. Same might be said about Jamaica I guess.
I would not regard Mexico as particularly poor by world standards. Compared to some African countries the Mexicans are rolling in money.
Africa has a lot of countries. It includes places like Egypt, Botswana and South Africa which are relatively wealthy. These and others like Ghana and Tanzania would welcome visitors as long as they spend a little cash.

No it is not.
In a way it will bring relief to poverty. Tourism brings jobs and money into the country.

why dont you vacation and attempt to do something to change it. you cant change the world but you can change a small piece of it. why not make a difference instead of whining about it.

I dont know about the ethics, but a high amount of poverty generally brings about high amounts of crime. You take your chances, it is ultimately your choice.
