I am 15 years old. I got my first tattoo on the day i turned 15. It is on the top of my wrist. I am a furure tattooist. Try to be free of all infectios. I really. It ickeld me at first. but when it sstaredt i wud rate it a 4. But the ammount of pain depends on where the tattooo is. Ribs are a painful place and anyplcae where the bone is closer to the skin. Don't get anything thats stupid. The only person that will love you forver is a vampire heh remember that it isn't a wash away thing and its gonig to be there for life an d for aftercare. use A&D ointment for about a week. Not a lot but just enough to keep it from drying out. Als don mve when the person is tatttoing or it will mess it up. Avoid direct sunlight. wash it 5 times a day with a fragrence free anti-bacteral hand soap. Don't scrub but use your finger tips to wipe away acess ink. Dont make an idoot of yourself and sob through it. I mean come on. I'm 15. I didn't flinch once. Make sure that you have something to drink near you bcause the entire time though my tattoo i was cotton mouthed bad. Oh. and remove the bandage within two hours. It needs to breath. Truust me. Don't go swimminguntl its fully healed or bath. it will fade the ink. you can take showers just dont soak it. and last but not least. enjoy this amazing art.

It's going to depend most on your own pain threshhold than anything else. Yes, where, how big, who does it, etc does all factor in though. I can tell you however that I asked a friend how it felt when she got hers on the small of her back, and she told me it was like a razor blade slicing into her skin. That scared me and it took me another few years before I got mine. I would say for me it was like a 6. It hurt enough to turn my knuckles white from clenching my fists but nothing like a razor blade. Also, what hurt the most was when the needle was right up against my spine. The skin is very tight and lean there so it certainly didn't feel good. I knew two other people who both had stomach tattoos and the girl told me it was no biggie while the guy (who was drunk when he got it I should mention) said it was the most pain he'd ever experienced.
Keep in mind too that it only hurts while the needle is going. Once they take it off your fine. So since the coloring in took longer and had the needle on my skin for longer periods, that hurt more than the outline. It's really no big deal. Mine took about 45 minutes but it felt more like 15. Just do it and get it over with and you'll wonder why you worried so much. What I WOULD be careful about though is making sure what you pick is what you are willing to stick with the rest of your life. What I hear is SEVERELY painful is laser removal...

it depends on the person and the tattoo and where you get it. i have 4 and they ranged from 0-6. the one on my hip didnt hurt at all. it just tickled a bit where as the one on my back by my right shoulder was probably about a 6 becuase it was bleeding so much he had to keep doing the same spot over and over to make sure it would turn out right. and so a tattoo that should have only taked 1.5 hours tops to do took 2.5 hours because he said hes never seen someone bleed so much on a tattoo. (I guess I'm a bleeder...or he didnt know what he was doing...one or the other) and the one on my lower back was about a 4 because I had a wicked bad sunburn, but they said it was ok to tattoo over it...it just will probably hurt more. and the other one I have on my back near my left shoulder was maybe a 2 or 3...it was my first tattoo. I dont even really like to say it hurts. its more af a constant annoyance until they finish. just pinches a bit.

It all really depends on your pain threshold. Just make sure you are absolutely sure that you want to keep a tattoo for the rest of your life. And remember that it can really limit your career choice. I have never seen a doctor, lawyer, etc. with a tattoo. But I have seen plenty of bikers, drug addicts/dealers, people at hot topic and overall losers sporting tats. And when you get tired of your tattoo the removal is a lot more painful than getting the tattoo. And if you are Jewish or follow one of the sects of Christianity heavily don't get a tattoo as it is forbidden in the Torah/Old Testament and for Gentiles it's an easy ticket to "hell".

I've got 4, and for me, it wasn't the actual tat that was painful. (it's no walk in the park, to be sure) What really got me was the fact that they ITCH...alot. And you absolutely cannot scratch them. The tattoo is going to be more or less painful depending on where you get it. Generally, the fleshier the area, the less it hurts. It felt a little bit like a sunburn, a little like a bee-sting. Just make sure that you follow the instructions the artist will give you. After-care is key.

This depends on your tolerance for pain. It also depends on where you are getting the tattoo. If you are getting it in an area that has many nerves, or not a lot of subcutaneous tissue, it's going to hurt more. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, got a tattoo on my upper back, and would rate the pain 5/10. The outlining hurts more than the "filling in". The needle "scrapes" the lines, and just "dots" the inside coloring.

I got a tattoo on my lower back when i was 17 and i would rate the pain as being a 5. It only hurts when it goes over the spine. Keep talking to the person doing the tattoo for you and it will distract you from the pain.

It depends on where you are getting it done. I have 5 tattoos and, at least for me, none of them were all that painful. Maybe a 5 or 6. However, areas on the bone were definitely uncomfortable! I'd avoid areas with a lot of bone.

I have several tattoos. My entire back, right thigh, top of right foot, and left ankle. Everyone has a different pain threshold so rating it is difficult. The best way I can explain the feeling is: Think of a bad sunburn. Now scratch it with a pin. Repeatedly. And as the artist works he, or she, will occasionally wipe excess ink off their work with a paper towel. This will eventually start to feel as if they are rubbing your "sunburn" with sandpaper. Remember, the more detail you have in your tattoo, the longer it will take to get inked and the longer you will need to endure these feelings. Good luck to you! =)
