i have always had people working for me that have never earned over 84 pounds but have someone who is starting this as there second job but they are still not going over the tax bracket with combined incomes do i just fill the p11 at the end of the year or do i need to tax them?

If it is their second job I take it they did not give you a P45.

So you should have asked them to complete the first part of form P46. Did you?

They would not have been able to tick any of the certificates so you should deduct tax at basic rate. You should also complete the P46 and send it to your tax district.

If the employee is convinced that his total income will be below the personal allowance for the year he should write to his tax office and explain the position. It is possible that a NT tax code will be issued (no tax to be deducted).

However, you must not presuppose this happening. You must follow the rules to cover yourself.
