I will tell why I don't. I am a full sized man 6-0 230 lbs. My friends are all about this same size. We tried to take my girlfriends honda civic on a trip to go whitewater rafting. Other than being totally uncomfortable the car was almost touching the rear tires from the weight of three men in the rear. When we backed out of the drive the muffler dragged and we scraped that idea for my f250.
It is not my fault the car companys are not required to make trucks with better mileage. Some how we can send a rocket to the moon a robot to freakin Mars a computer chip on a pinhead but we are unable to get 50 mpg out of a truck motor. Well I say B.S.
Scott L has a great point I walked to schol but around here every little high roller brat is driven too school. There is a traffic jam at every school and a cop with his car idling (one of the worst things you can do) to direct traffic for these planet saving kids

I was driving a small car with only 3 cylinders and running very cheaply indeed, but was forced to buy a big car since I could not stop my grandchildren growing up including the dogs and lugage for staying over etc especially not since in Australia there are no efficient public transport facilities and certainly not outside the Metropolitan areas.

Because big cars can be used for any purpose, not just short trips to and from work or school. Small cars can't.
And people shouldn't be taking their kids to school in cars, I remember riding the bus every day. But I guess we'd all rather drive the kid to work than hire someone to actually supervise them on the bus (besides the person driving).

Unfortunately little cars will not tow big caravans, so a big car is a must. We enjoy the freedom of travelling without the expensive accommodation prices attached or hassles of findng accommodation on short notice. A small van or camper trailer is neither suitable nor practical for us as with many others in our situation.

Good question and I'm glad you get pissed . But i get pissed when people like you don't believe in anything new .You all think its a hoax just like the people driving the big automobile think its all a hoax whats the difference
www.first-molecule.com At least take a look at this .The applications of such a devise are mind boggling. Home, auto, industry you name it cheap and clean . it would change the way we live life today but I'm afraid people just don't want change maybe there just to afraid to change don't know but its coming one way or another no matter what people want

I think I know what you are trying to say here. Just sitting outside of a school entrance and seeing how many SUVs are used just to take the kids to school is ridiculous. A small car for every day running around would be more practical. Big vehicles have their uses but unfortunately some people who have these vehicles to do a job like towing, would be lucky to use it 10% in a year for that purpose.

There are a few reasons I can think of.
1. Handicapped equipped vans
2. Carpool vans
3. Ambulance
4. Hearse
5. Food delivery
Lots of reasons for you to be "pissed off'. Which by the way no one cares about!

Because of the cost of gasoline. For many years, Europe has had gas prices equivalent to $4-5 USD, because of the additional gasoline taxes. In the US and Canada, we've kept gas taxes relatively low. As a result, Europe has created more public transportation and smaller cars.
So, if you want people to stop driving big cars, lobby your Congressman for higher gas taxes.

The entertainment industry and all politicians use air-choking vehicles (private jets, limos) and own sprawling non-eco friendly estates- so we all should have them!
Just ask Al "Carbon-Offset" Gore.

I drive a big car (minivan) for the same reason Al Gore lives in a big house: Because we can.
But I'm also seriously thinking about at least experimenting with driving that big car at the posted MINIMUM speed limit, just to see what mileage I get.
