My friends and I were eating in an expensive restaurant for one of their birthday. She was paying for the meal itself (actually, her parents were, but she had the money), so the 3 of us decided to pick up the tip for a £150 meal.

The service in this restaurant had been appalling; the waiter had looked bored whilst we finalised our orders, even though we had asked him if he would mind coming back in about 5 minutes (ie, he chose to remain). When he did come, he brought 3 of our 4 drinks, gave them to the wrong people and rudely told the other one that the drink she'd ordered was out of stock - the polite thing to do would have been to come before bringing us ours at some stage in the 10 minute wait.

Pretty much the same thing happened with our food - brought it after a long wait (we think he was off having a smoke due to the smell when he finally came back) and gave it to the wrong people without even checking first. Then, of course, the entire process was repeated when we ordered desserts and coffees/teas.

Anyway, back to this tip; one of my friends paid £5 and the other paid another £5. Bear in mind that a 10% tip is the normal where I live, so they were obviously assuming I'd pick up the final third of what should have been a £15 tip. Instead, I left 5p to express my dissatisfaction. I think it got the point across better than nothing, because with the £10, he could assume we'd been reasonably happy, but the leaving of the 5p was an insult.

Working for the County in Michigan I needed to use a phone for a company emergency, I asked the nearest and, only store owner to use his cell and explained to him the situation. He refused and stated he didn't care if I worked for the County and was on County business or not.

He was an Iraqi immigrant by the way.

I was forced to go find another public phone and call in for the help needed, my phone and radio were "out."

I turned him in to the County prosecutors office as a "aid in an emergency" but, don't know the outcome. All of the departments 33 men refused services at that gas station/store and we did change gas filling stations after that. He sent us an apology but was refused.

A person who worked the same place I did, she wanted to learn about real estate, which was not associated with our job at the time, and after helping her day after day on lunch breaks, she got a promotion at the job we had, and she did her best to make my job miserable as through we never had been friends. After an event happened that was my fault, I went up to her desk and loudly apologized for what was my fault, and presented her with a nice potted plant. She threw the plant in her desk drawer and gave me a dirty look. But everyone saw her true self come out. I am glad I apologized and feel it taught her a lesson also.

We went in a resturant for a meal, the table had been booked and we were shown to our seats. We ordered drinks and AFTER we had the drinks they told us there was no cooked food tonight, only sandwiches! We were very put out and all the waitress did was stand there looking dumb. We complained to the manager, be she didn't care either, they did it on purpose to get some money in that night, as they knew that if they told you before you had drinks that the chef was not in you would not buy drinks, but would go elsewhere.

If I am in a store and treated rudely I always take the persons name and tell the manager. I don't know what happens then but it makes me feel better. People who work in stores should treat all their customers kindly.

I used to let it happen and just be mad at myself for not doing anything but now every time it happens I get the manager or owner or the highest person within the place and explain to them, calmly and professionally how I have been mistreated and explain the details and how it has offended me etc. It feels better after you get it off your chest. The most recent time was at my bank. The teller was rude and kept telling me she couldn't tell me my balance. ????WTF??? I told her thanks and went straight to the bank manager. It's really sad because there is no such thing as customer service anymore. It just doesn't exist anymore.

Wal-mart, Bennigan's, the local store.... I just called the home office of each and let them know how the employees had behaved and how I felt I was treated! sometime just letting someone know and not becoming one of those irate guests works ten times better than losing your temper!
