Its the middle of winter, and she is flouncing around in a singlet and skirt, insisting she is not cold. The rest of us are shivering under our jackets and trackpants. She has always been this way. She is 5 now. I fight desperately to keep clothes on her. Even if it gets that cold that she has blueish lips, she will swear black and blue she isnt cold, and begs me to let her take her jumper off. I cant explain it. Quite often she feels warm to the touch, when Im freezing my backside off. What gives? Anyone else has a child that does this? To add to the craziness, its not unusual to see her wear a scarf and beanie in the middle of summer. Like I said but, shes always been this way, it doesnt appear to be an attention thing. I just cant explain it. Appreciate any insight.

And yes, she is slender and extremely high energy, perhaps it is just because she never sits long enough to get cold. Shes always dancing or singing or playing, or all three at the same time.

Greetings Vicarious,

My son is similar. Kicks his covers off, takes off his pajamas, always wants his window open, does not like blankets or beadspreads. Only washes his hands with cold water and takes a shower that feels icy cold to me.

I can't drag him out of the pool, and in the winter time he insists on staying outside even when his little chin is chattering and his lips are blue.

Doesn't sound quite as determined as your daughter, but I can definitely sympathize with you.

You answered your own question when you said that she was high in energy bouncing about when she plays. She doesn't get cold because she's exercising.

Blue lips, however, are another matter. Blue lips=coat and hat.

Remember that you are the parent and it is your responsibility/job to choose her clothing. If she removes it after you've told her to wear it, she should be punished. Ask to remove it more than one time, she should be punished. I'm the mom, I make these decisions, and you will not argue with me.

Don't fight desperately. You're the parent and she's 5. If she's getting the best of you at 5yo, what's it going to be like when she's 15?

I was a lot like this and still am. I was however on the chubby side. My mom was constantly feeling my forehead, because my cheeks were red and she thought I was running a temp. I refused to ever wear a hat and unless I was sleigh riding or on the tractor I rarely wore a coat. When I would get tired I would also get cold, I'm still like that. I am so tired of hearing perfect strangers ask me where is your coat? Well when we get cold we will put them on. Listen to your daughter and keep checking her skin, as long as shes warm to the touch and she says she is okay then believe it. She may grow out of it or she might continue being warm the rest of her life.

Aside from the beanie and scarf in mid summer I'd just account for it being a higher than average body temperature. 98.6 degrees is just the average body temperature not the norm. But if she is blue in the lips, I'd take interest in a second opinion, hopefully medical :D

Oh, my son is like that too. He's 3 now, and can get away with t-shirt and shorts when I'm in jeans and sweaters! But he takes after his father, who's always hot as well. T-shirts in winter...brr!

But if I remember correctly I didn't get cold as a child either.

She sounds like my daughter. Her teachers were forever reprimanding me for not dressing her for the weather. To this day, she refuses to wear mittens in winter. Some kids just have a higher core temperature. Teaching her how to dress in layers helps, that way she retains some control.
My sister is the same way - that woman has never owned a winter coat.

ha ha hi twin. Maybe because she is young and always jumping r dancing around that she does stay warm. its hard to know. does she go out of the house like this? if she does u just have to put ur foot down and tell her she cant leave the house until she gets dressed. ur the adult and she has to learn to listen to u. but like i said kids do alot more activity's then us and r closer to the ground so maybe she doesn't feel the cold lol.

If she isn't getting sick, cut her some slack. Some people are just very warm. My grand-daughter is the same way. However, if she has blueish lips she needs warmer clothing even if she doesn't think so. After all, you are the grown-up. What you say must be what she does.

Hello, kids are naturally warmer than adults because they are more active. I can remember being the same way and my mom thinking it was weird that I wasn't cold when she was cold. Now that I am the parent I go thru the same thing with my kids. I am cold but they are warm. LOL Growing old bites don't it?
