Think of this as if you were in my situation... and don't be derogatory towards me because I have not been to you. I was at a store I almost never go to trying to find some nice clothes for a big dinner I ha to goto later on that evening. As I'm walking into he womens dressing room to try on the clothes I walk past two women talking in (by the "put away clothes" rack) when someone taps me on the shoulder saying "excuse me ma'am, you can only have 5 items. Purturbed at the way she said it and the fact she touched me (I have no idea where he hands have been) I put one of the articles of clothing on the rack next to me and then start to walk, she says from behind me "well can i count them (she has a very demeaning tone) and I say no because I have five and begin to walk, I hear her say something under her breathe and I say very loudly "well if you weren't such a b**** i would have been nicer, walk into the dressing room and say loudly again bc of how mad i now am "it's not like im going

to steal anything, my purse is like five inches wide full of stuff." My mom comes back there and tries on some stuff (who later tells me that she overheard some women saying how they need to check and make sure the girl (meaning me im sure) didn't steal anything). So I walk out of the dressing room with the stuff I intend to buy and she keeps watching me as I'm looking at (cheap) jewerly waiting on my mom to finish (on her way out) she tells me she heard the same women talking about "ya, tahts the mean one over there" so I stare at the lady and see her walking over to yet another woman, no doubt talking about me because she was pointing and looking over at me.... I have never seen a sign the few times I have been there (including today) seeing 5-items-or-less. Nor have I ever had someone stop me on my way into the dressing room at this particular store. And then to be physcially touched AFTER I had already walked past this woman (who could have just been

waiting on their son or boyfriend to get done) It bothers me to see people get paid to sit around and do nothing! And I always have the thought in the back of my mind... would it have really mad a difference if I had spoken to the manager when everyone in the store seems to be so friendly with all their coworkers....

But why should I cow-tow to someone who is demeaning me?

If the policy had been changed, it should have been posted, there was no need to touch me, and if she was so worried... why not man her post rather than be in the boys dressing room chatting it up with a friend...?

Just a little.

No reason for her to touch you - ever, would have told not to dare touch me.

As for the number of items thing, customers are concentrating on what to buy vs. scanning the walls looking for signs. So I can understand you not noticing this.

I would have told her ' fine you stand outside the dressing room door and 'hold' the clothing while I try each piece on, after I toss the rejected item out, hand me another piece of clothing'. As you would treat a maid.

When you think about it, that is her job, customer service. Yeah?

I would have told her that she had no right to imply you might be a thief, to other staff and within earshot of other customers. I would have notified the head of the store chain or at least the manager.

Go there again, try on lots of stuff, dump it outside the dressing room door. Leave and not buy anything.

For one, it is not the sales woman's fault that you waited til the last minute and were in a hurry to get your clothes. Secondly, if she was at the "put away clothes rack" she was probably doing her job and sorting clothes. The sheer audacity of her to be talking to someone when obviosly you are the most important person in the store. Also, anyone is suspect of shoplifting and she WAS doing her job by stopping you before you went into the dressing room with too many items. Sorry someone as low as the "help" dared to touch you to stop you and make you follow the rules like everyone else when it is soooo obvious that you are above the rules. What was she supposed to do, yell at you and embarrass you to get you to stop? And then to top all of this off you are complaining about her standing around doing nothing but yet when she does try to do her job, not only do you demean her but also refuse to let her do her job by not letting her count the items of clothing. Everywhere that I have ever been to try on clothes I have had to let someone count the items, nice or not. If you had done that to me, I would have called the manager myself and had you banned from the store and mommy would not be able to do a darn thing about it. If you insist on being a b**** then expect to get treated like one. And yes,you can be banned from a store for demeaning a staff member for doing their job, ESPECIALLY when it comes to theft control. Sounds like you need to grow up and get a job so that you can learn to respect others.

No , I don't think you were out of line...I probably would have done the same thing and asked to see the manager also. The store needs to know when their salespeople are dogging their customers; as this will make people stop coming to their store and making purchases. I probably would not have bought the items there no matter how good they looked or how much I liked them. I would have told the manager that I don;t spend my money where I am treated like a thief.

Well, I wasn't there, but maybe you were a little too sensitive? I don't like strangers to touch me either, but a tap on the shoulder? Maybe they had had a lot of theft lately and changed the policy and the lady was a little uncomfortable about it. I won't say either was right or wrong but I think you overreacted.

Ya know some people REALLY take the cake! There are some really obnoxious people in this world..and unfortunately for you, you just encountered them!
They were only trying to help....but, still, they maybe should have just not said anything..because not everybody can handle it when people they do not know say or touch them....(It is a goes both way, type of situation..ya know)?!?

No, I'd be pissed off too. What you really should do, is complain to either the Manager of the store, or write a letter to the Owners, and tell them you're taking your business elsewhere (regardless if that's true or not.)

I give back what I receive and most likely would have said I will take my business elsewhere. When you get a sales assistant that is rude to you either walk away, give it back to them or ask to see the manager that gets them going unless they are the manager then you tell them they should have better PR skills.

o.k. the first time she touched me she would have been picking herself up from the floor.
no apology from me. don't touch me. that's simple.
unless you know me well, you have no business touching me. period.

after she said something about the 5 items i would have asked to see the sign. if there is no sign she's lying. i would have called her a liar to her face.
besides that fact, she has a job where the prerequisite is counting to 5. any 3 year old could have her job.

i want to know what store it was so i don't go there.

Inflection is a nasty bugger, isn't it? Were you out of line? I do not know, but I could very easily imagine myself being just as perturbed as you if the person's tone was as accusing as you imply.
