i m a gal. My mum insists on having my hair cut short by the barber. What should i do?

My hair is currently a boyish slope cut with very short side burns and very short bangs. every 2 weeks once she brings me 2 the barber to get it cut like a boy. If i refuse she cuts even shorter. Sometimes if she is not free to bring me to the barber, she cuts my hair at home by herself. She uses a shaver to shave my nape real short(as far as she can go) and my side burns. Help me! Wat should i do??

i am thinking she wanted a boy and had a girl. so she is making you into a boy. go and talk to your school counselor. then your mother can come in and you can all sit down and talk. what your mother is doing is wrong. She is wanting you to look like a boy. I am sorry but there is something wrong with your mother. You need to talk to your school counselor or get social service involved. I feel for you. I really do. I am going to be 38 next month. In kindergarten I had the prettiest long blond hair. I always woar braids or pony tails. For some odd reason, over summer break, my had my hair all cut off. It was shorter then a boys. I remember going into first grade, and the teachers not remembering me. They thought I was a new boy in school. When we were at the library the librarian said can I help you find a book little boy. I was crushed. I was never aloud to grow my hair out again. My mother wanted me to look like a boy. In all honesty. She wanted a boy and had a girl. so she was transforming me into a boy. I would have to wear boys jeans and cords with boys cow boy shirts. It was mortifying..... and lets not forget the boys coats. Kids teased me about my short hair and my clothes and the boys coats.
I am soon to b 38 and I have long hair all one length. Past the middle of my back. It drives my mom crazy and she begs me to get it all cut off short.

Hi, I am sorry to hear how your mom does you about your hair. I don't want to be rude but do you have a brother or are you the only child? If you are the only child sounds like your mom wants you to be a boy. Tell your mom that you want your hair to grow out and that you want to look like a girl not a boy!!
Just refuse if she continues with the short hair business. You have a right to wear your hair the way YOU want to. Good Luck. A Friend.

maybe your mum thinks that you are a boy or wants you to be a boy. Or have you done something bad and she is punishing you by keeping it short like a boys?
Another one would be to ask her if you can keep it longer and get a weekly roller set at a salon along with her or your gran. at least then your hair will be longer but ikept in a granny sort of style instead.
Perhaps she might let you try it out as at least it will be more feminine than having a boys haircut and your hair will be longer but you will need to master setting your own hair to maintain your set between appointments.

Ariel, Legally, you have to do what your parents say until you are old enough to leave home. Your mother seems to have very definite ideas about how your hair should be cut. It is hard to change the mind of people who are this determined to express their will.

Perhaps you could propose an exchange to her. You will take on a new responsibility around the house, and she lets you decide your hair style. I wish you the best.

You should assert youself a biT and to explain to her that now you are a young lady with a mind of her own, free to choose what she likes and what shedoes not. Propably your mother thinks that by cutting your hair short in a boyish style it makes you less atractive to boys and so in her mind keps you out of trouble

That`s bad. I feel that every one no matter how old should be able to make their own dissicions about how they wanna look. Be straight and honest with your mother, thats what I did and it worked. My hair was short as well and now it is haning half way down my back.

Ask her why shes doing it. Maybe shes afraid of you growing up too fast and becoming too sexual (hair can be very sexy).
And then calmly tell her youd like it to be grown out for your own amusement, not for a boy.
