My cat just turned 1 a few weeks ago and as a kitten she ate like a beast - I left her dry food 24 hours and I would give her a small can of cat food in the morning and one in the evening and she would eat them quickly and like sometime ask for more. She's a very healthy cat, very active, perfect weight and I notice that she will eat much less now, she will have a little then go back for it - I know this is normal cat behavior but was never her behavior. Is this normal because now she's no longer a kitten? She is not spayed - she is allergic to anesthesia (I found that out the hard way), she is an indoor cat that can't get out and she is a rescued stray - I've had her since 3 months old.

It's the same food - her favorite. She's pooping normally and acting healthy.

Cats do eat less as they grow older.
Have you switched brands of food? Could be the cause.
If she is eating significantly less, take her to see a vet.

Kittens are like babies. They need to eat more often. Now that your cat reached the big 1 her habits are going to change. You had her on a schedule and now she will let you know of any schedule changes. The same amount of food isn't needed. I wouldn't worry about her not cleaning her plate the first time around. Sounds like she's taking a little break in between before she totally finishes.

Cat behaviors change all the time. Their favorite sleeping places change all time. Just when you think you have it all figured out something changes. When you have a pet, life is never boring. They do keep you quessing. But that's what makes life interesting for both you and your cat.

At age one they aren't quite adult yet, but will begin to settle down a little more. You say she isn't spayed so she will probably be more active, not that spaying changes female cats all that much compaired to male cats.

Don't worry so much about your cat's eating habbits. From the sounds of what you're saying, she's healthy and spirited.
From time to time my cat will not clean her plate and will come back and finish up. One day she decided she wasn't going to eat dry food any more. which was always there for her. Her schedule is now 5:00 AM and 3:00PM. You can set you clock by her. She comes thru loud and clear. I have since put a small bowl of dry food back down by her water. She's been eating it very slowly.

So, you see changes happen all the time. My cat is 25 yrs. old now so you can imagine all the changes that have accured thru the years. She's still kicken and lets her presence known.

By the way, on average cats will sleep up to 18 hrs. a day.
Like I said earlier, your kitty sounds just fine. She's doing what cats do like getting under foot, begging for attention and leaving their air behind on the furniture.

i think of it rather is time you may evaluate the prospect that this often is the tip. save a particular eye on what he eats and beverages and take him to the vet if not something differences in the subsequent couple of days. it might desire to be some thing thats treatable yet comprehend that it won't be - 17 is a enormously honest innings for a cat.

She was growing before and needed the nutrients and calories, so she ate more. Sounds like she's a pretty smart cat, regulating her own eating habits. They don't all do that.
