resistance training before bedtime is not optimum for gains in muscle mass but for strength training it would not have much.
many people forget or are unware of the effects that resistance training has on the endocrine system. resistance training is extremely catabolic, the body has a negative protein balance at the conclusion of exercise. for optimum gains in muscle mass you need to consume some form of post workout supplementation to restore the nutrients that were expended during exercise. then around 60+ minutes later another light meal/protein shake of a high quality easily digestable protein needs to be consumed to give the body sufficient nutrients to return to an anabolic state where fat loss is optimized as is muscle growth. 60% of muscle growth occurs at night but that is only if there are sufficient nutrients available for use.

Well there is scientific research that shows its best if you are going to work out at night do so at least three hours prior to bed. I guess it has to do with the temperature of the body. But all that crap aside lets get right down to the answer. Its bad if it makes you fell bad. If not go right on ahead. I finish my workouts at night now and have about two hours before I go to bed. If you dont find anything wrong with it go for it. Whats right for one is not always right for the other. I will say try to workout in the day once and then at night. You may not be able to lift as much at night due to you have been up working and moving all day. But if theres not much of a difference I wouldnt worry about it. Just make sure you keep on pumping thats the main point. Peace out......................

I work out at night before I go to sleep and I don't notice any negative effects. Some people complain that it keeps them up at night...I don't notice this at all. My muscles are warmed up and then I take a shower so I get to sleep with no problems. I lift weights and do cardio around 10 - 11p.m. I would try working out at night on the weekend to see if it affects your sleep. You don't want to throw your body clock out of rhythm. Work out Friday night and see if it affects your ability to sleep the next day.

Exercise in the morning is the best time as you will get your adrenaline going if you do it before bed and probably not sleep well. Go steady with your exercise but do not overdo it. Good luck!

it's best to exercise in the morning about 30mins after eating, working out in the morning provides more energy throughout the day, while exercising at night makes it hard to sleep because you get your body stimulated when it should be calming down.

I always lifted in the morning or early afternoons on the weekend.
The reason is simple - most repair of the muscle happens soon after breaking it down. To maximize repair one has to eat to fuel the building of muscle. If you are asleep - you aren't eating. Infact as the word "break-fast" suggests, your are temporarilly Fasting... Not good for building muscle.

If it doesn't interfer with your sleeping, I can't see anything wrong with it. However, normally lifting weights increases the mitochondrium in the muscle cells, which, in turn, increases energy. Additonally, contrary to certain beliefs, the body repairs itself while you are sleeping. (see website below)
So, if you're not too energized at bedtime (as most people would be)-- pump it.

its best early in the morning, but not especially great before you go to bed...when you sleep, you want your body to be completely relaxed and rested, and not overworked and physically drained.
