i am going into my senior year of high school and i was accepted into a program that allows me to take an EMT class at a college. But i recently witnessed my friend get into a serious accident, and he suffered a serious head injury, the kind i will likely assess as an EMT, and it has really affected me, does anyone think becoming an EMT is a bad idea?

Go for it. that is a good career to get into and more secure than many jobs. you will be able to save lives at the site. I am in the medical field as well and I find the EMT personnel very honorable. next time God forbid that anything should happen to someone you know you will respond quicker, and know what to do better increasing the chances of the person you know survive the trauma or injury. I wish you lots of luck and want you to suceed. GO FOR IT!!

I had to become a certified EMT to take a job as a Ski Patrolman in Colorado. Most of the best police departments require cops to be certified. I think a lot of firemen are EMTs as well. I can promise that it won't hurt your future.

well you would probably work on people you don't know so really there is no bond between you , i know it sounds insensitive but its how it works if ambulance is not your style if you get training with placing IV or you get EMT-II or EMT-P training than you can work in a blood banks or a ER or mcdonalds

some people don't have the personality to become EMT's .
nevertheless, it's good if u know basic emergency procedures.

It can be an exciting life at times. It depends on how you feel about trauma and death and how much you enjoy helping others.
