I live near a women's gym that's similar to Curves and I know that in order to get fit, you need to challenge your body often. I heard circuit training is an effective workout because of the exercise variations, but in 30 minutes a day...? Is that really enough time to get results? It seems pretty low impact, which is what I need, but that's what concerns me. Is it enough of a workout?

I once lost nearly 140 lbs and was 3 lbs away from my ideal weight of 150, but depression got the best of me and I gained back 40. I want to get back on track before I gain it all back. I miss the energy I had, as well as feeling strong, agile and most importantly healthy.

I know the workouts aren't limited to just 30 mins, but since I'm starting over, I want to take it easy at first. How long does it take to not just see, but "feel" the results?

The more you work out, the more your body will just "feel" healthier. It increases your circulation, giving you a rejuvinated feeling, so you'll be feeling your results every day. Women's places (like curves) are perfect actually. The machines they use are built to your own specified resistance, in other words, 30 minutes is plenty as long as you put enough into it. If you go in there and really give those machines a run for their money, you'll get results! They're designed to give you back whatever you put into them, so if you barely push on the leg machine....it will put little resistance, making your workout not nearly as effective.

Also, with places like that, you will have employees there to train you and help move your weight-loss process along nicely. And with a good workout, weight-loss is usually permanent because your metabolism will be greatly boosted!

Good luck on your venture!

the time that is spent exercising is not as important as the intensity at which exercise is performed at.

a 30 minute workout can be very exhausting if you make it that way. the diet aside most people never see the changes in their bodies that they desire due to not pushing themselves hard enough when performing cardio or resistance training. to make continual gains you need to perform more work each training session than the previous. say for example you run 4 miles on the treadmill in 30 minutes today. the next time you exercise you want to run for 4.1 miles and the next session 4.2, etc. in the same 30 minutes. this is how you increase cardiovascular performance which will equate to a higher resting metabolic rate after exercise.

if over the course of a year you have not mad much progress in strength, cardiovascular endurance, etc. don't expect too see much of a change in the body composition.

ultimately the diet will determine the rate of fat loss, muscle gain, etc. if you are training regularly and at a high level of intensity.

I USED TO WORK OUT AT CURVES AND I ENJOYED IT. I FOUND FOR ME THAT 30 MIN PER DAY WASN'T ENOUGH. SO I WOULD OFTEN DO THE CIRCUIT MORE THAN ONCE. I SEEMED TO LOSE A LOT OF INCHES WORKING OUT THERE BUT NOT MANY POUNDS.

I THINK IF 30 MIN PER DAY IS ALL YOU CAN SQUEEZE IN, THEN THATS BETTER THAN NOTHING. BUT I TRY TO WORK OUT AT LEAST AN HOUR WHEN TIME PERMITS. I JUST FIND THAT I GET A BETTER WORKOUT. BECAUSE YOUR BODY WILL GET USED TO A CERTAIN ROUTINE AND YOU HAVE TO CHALLENGE IT TO CONTINUE WEIGHT LOSS.

I SAY IN ABOUT 2 WEEKS TO 1 MONTH YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FEEL AND SEE RESULTS.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU IN YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY. I TOO AM TRYING TO GET TO 150.
