ok I bought the car from a private party and I need to put the car in my name & get a new title. I am in the state of California by the way what are the fees? It has tags till next year

take the paper work in you are going to need smog if you have AAA they can do all of it or call dmv for a appointment it will save time you need proof of insurance you have to pay about 8% sales tax the teansfer fee very depends where you live in cal. good luck!

you will have to pay sales tax based on the sale amount as well as registraion fees.
