i speak castillian spanish, and i'd like to know some of the main differences between it and other dialects of spanish (particularly mexican spanish)

Yo también hablo castellano y acabo de ir a Méjico por primera vez. The differences are not as great as some people make out. The main differences in pronunciation that I noticed were 'seseo' - the pronunciation of zeta as ese whether written c or z and the virtual disappearance of syllable final s in most words.

A fair number of words are different, but this is only the sort of difference you see between British and American English. If you speak Cast. Sp. fairly well, you will have no problems.

You should know the difference. If you watch a movie you should hear the accent and the different words that are used for different things. Just like Spanish used in Cuba and Spanish used in Mexico. A bolillo is the same thing as a birote. In Mexico a papaya is called a bomba fruta. So there are many words that are different. That's all...
