it is a combination of diet and genes. but yes many people who have pot bellies are genetically predispositioned. they may not have lots of fat on their body but will still have a pot belly.
scientists say we have pot bellies because in times of famine when there was a lack of food, our ancestors stored fat on their bellies. people with large bellies are also more likely to get diabetes, so avoid that excess rush of sugar. stick with low glycemic foods.these are foods that will not raise ur blood sugar very quick and do plenty of cardio. building ur muscle will increase ur metabolism, so get on weight lifting too. i have the same problem.

I've never read where it is genetic. You could have a predisposition towards it because of the food you eat and the activities in which you engage yourself.

The men on my mom's side of the family all had this firm round belly. They were thin and downright skinny. Two of my uncles were in the Navy during World War II. Once they mustered out the tummys mustered in.

I have read that sucking your gut in while doing crunches can help aleviate that problem.

yes - for a pig, but genetics is not an excuse for humans - - start doing crunches combined with running or walking!!! You can do crunches any time .....and should (while watching TV, first thing when you get up, during lunch, before you go to bed, etc.). Start out doing just a handful (e.g., 10) and work your way up to the point where you feel like you could do them all day long. The extra fat around your belly WILL disappear and you'll FEEL great!

our genetics (homosapien) naturally causes excess nutrients to be stored in the midsection first as this effect balance, mobility, etc. less.

to be at your bodyweight and have a pot belly is a sign that you have not been eating properly or getting sufficient exercise

Genetics probably play a part in it sometimes, but you CAN lose it.

It can be! However, it can also mean a bad back. Check into it with your doctor. This doesn't mean that you can't work on it and give up. Continue to eat right and workout.
