As they call in and say their name, write it down. People get annoyed when you repeat their name wrong.

If they've come from a hold circuit make a little joke withe them like "wow, the hold system finally let you out, I'm glad they let you out to me, hi..."

Know everything you can about the product, nobody likes to hold on the phone because you don't know or have to ask.

Keep it short and sweet and tell them early on during the conversation with something like "I know you're busy and I appreciate you taking the time to call, I'm going to make this as short, sweet and painless as possible for you".

If someone gets abusive remember, you DON'T have to put up with it. Swearing over the phone is the abuse of a carrier device. Even if your boiss says you have to you don't. Nobody has to put out with a fool or a loudmouth. Say politely that the tone and content of their call is inappropriate and tell them to call back when they will afford you a reasonable opportunity to help. Remeber, that bozo is holding up other nicer people from your help.

If they are querying a bill or something and they say "Oh, my son must have watched the adult movies" or whatever use that as an opportunity to sell - maybe your work has a security or lockout mode or product. Remeber, the consumer probably doesn't know and will be grateful.

Sound cheerful. They can't hurt you from where they are and maybe they are having a tough day. They aren't calling you to get the glums.

Only personalise your workspace with a few small items, they will distract you on the phone.

Every morning, read a joke from the paper just before you log on, it will set you in the right mood.

Keep calls short, concise, reasonably to the point but don't be afraid to joke around a little.

Speak to the caller in much the same way as they speak to you. If the caller calls you buddy, call them buddy, if they sound like the Queen - posh it up a little without making it sound like you are parodying them.

1. Realize that you will have BAD days - learn to cope and not let your customers know your day is bad

2. Realize that your customers will have BAD days too - be conscientious and respectful. If they're giving you a hard time, you may ask, "Mr. Jones, I'm sorry if you've had a bad day and I'd like for this experience to be a good one for you so you'll call me back again and again and again to buy our products from me, how can I help you have a GREAT experience?" That'll take the steam outta them and put you on HIS side.

3. Get a mirror & set it in front of you - look into it as you talk with people. Smile. When you feel like frowning, turn up the smile. It WILL make your voice more cheerful and kinder - people cann hear emotions and see a smile thru a telephone.

4. Learn to poke fun at yourself - some "professionals"
are such sticks in the mud that they are like talking to undertakers! Liven up your voice a little bit and if you make an error, mention something like, "Oops! Glad I caught that before it went to billing! I'd hate to have to pay the difference for overcharging you!"

I sold Sprint Yellow Pages as an InsideTelephone rep for YEARS and had a blast! Be yourself, be happy and make money!

Listen twice than you speak, make questions about customers needs, as long as it goes the conversation is better for you, your are getting rapport and empathize with the customer, show that you understand his needs by paraphrasing some of its statements, explain him how what you offer will solve his needs and clearly state the benefits for him of your proposal.

Its important that you talk clearly, and at a speed your counterpart can follow, make sure that also the customer understand the words you use or the concepts you are explaining.

Your voice should be heard calm, credible, remember body talks, voice reflects how you are, if you are anxious the person at the other end of the line will realize it, .

Do the world a favor and quit right now.

There is no money for you to make in Telemarketing.
It is a dying industry and everyone will spout hate at you for calling them.

Did you know that you can even be sued personally for accidentally calling a number you are not supposed to?

People are actually being federally prosecuted in that industry.

Spam Email is just as bad so don't do that either.

When they tell you that you are taking "inbound" calls, that is not entirely true... the autodialer calls them and if they don't hang up then they are transferred to you... sometimes they wait on the line just to scream at you.

I do this. be confident. be forceful.
You can do a great job. Do not be intimidated. If they hang up on you too bad. You are offering a service. I do not get offended. I try every angle as it is money in my pocket.
Good luck to you
