she is still somewhat hyper, but not as much as before. when we give her treats, she eats them, however she doesn't wanna eat her real food which is science diet + some wet food. i recently bought the bigger bites for her, and not the small bites and i'm thinking maybe that's what the problem is. however, i still worry she's hungry. she eats from my hand but still very little. i don't like spoiling her however i'm really worried.. please let me know if this is normal or not. please don't tell me to just take it to a vet unless you deem it really necessary. thanks in advance!

well 1st you need to cut out the treats for a bit...thats like giving kids cookies & then wondering why they dont want to eat dinner....2nd dogs WILL NOT starve themselves, put her food out at her meal time & leave it there for about an hour I guess, if she doesnt eat it pick int up & be done with it...NO MORE FOOD OR TREATS untill next meal time.....she WILL wat once she realizes that she needs to eat at meal time & she needs to eat what you feed her......like I sadi dogs WILL NOT starve themselvs you cant worry about this, shes just trying to establish her dominance & if you keep catering to her she will win & you will have more behavior problems in the future...YOU are the pack leader & YOU choose when its times to eat, when its time to play, etc etc etc.....she will eb more than happy to follow into a lower status in the pack and accept you as her alpha, its less stressfull to not be the leader

I had the same problem with a 5 month old pup that I was fostering. She wouldn't eat anything unless I held it in my hand and fed it to her. Well, I couldn't do this every time, so I went out and bought some small nugget puppy food, put some water on it to soften it up, added some of the IMAS gravy on top, stirred it together, then added about 1/3rd of a tub of the Beniful wet dog food to it (comes in yummy flavors like Beef Stew, Chicken and vegies and other assorted flavors). She ate it all up on the first go round and I didn't have any problems with her after that. Around that age they are getting their adult teeth and her gums could be smarting. The moister softer food might help. Also give them a variety of flavors. Good luck! Oh and I disagree on the treats. They love them and as long as they are puppy or dog treats the little amount you are giving her isn't spoiling her appitite.

If you've got a very small dog (and it sounds like you do), then you aren't letting her get hungry enough to eat dog food. Toy/teacup size dogs often need only 200 calories per day, that's less than 20 doritos....for the ENTIRE 24 hour day. They only eat 2 or 3 bites at a time because that's all their stomach will hold. We see morbidly obese toy dogs all the time because they "wont eat"...well, you don't get fat off of air! A couple of treats will fill her belly up and she will have no desire to eat her nutritious dog food.

a lot of dogs can be tense when first coming into a new enviroment. they can be scared, afraid or overly hyper and wont eat. When me and my fiance first brought home our baby min pin he was the same way. dont worry things should be fine. and remember that some dogs just dont eat much. my dog only eats half a cup of food twice a day and hes full grown 10 lbs now. and if the puppy still wont eat switch brands it may just not like the smell of that one. (ps. small bites are much much better for puppies)

Quit giving her treats, other than a few pieces of kibble.

Leave her food available all the time, for now.

In my experience, no dog will starve itself when there is food available. It might take a day or two, but she will eat when she realizes that it is the only alternative.
.
If you wish, later, you can let her have access to her food bowl only at specific times.
