i've tried speech therapy, but it doesnt work, at least not for me. i think its because the teacher has no idea wat she's talking about because she's never stutter'd a day in her life and doesnt kno anyone that stutters. she's juss a quack!

Hi. I am a stutter as well. I feel your pain. Its hard. Sometimes we are completely fluent and the next...boom it hits! Those nasty blocks where you can't even get a sound out. I'm 25 now.
My advice....find a support group in your area ..ppl who also stutter. That helped me just to hear other's stories. I've also been through quite a few speech therapists...but i know its hard to follow "techniques " all the damn time! I am going to start on a book i got. "Self-therapy for the stutterer" by Malcolm Frasier.
If you need more info and help in finding a group in your area. feel free to contact me. I'd love to help...and beleive me I know how embarrasing and painful it can be at times.

You're probably too young to remember Mel Tilllis. He's a country singer who stutters when he talks. But when he sings, he has no problem. That's because he knows it BY HEART. I find that very interesting. Check it out! If there's something you know by heart like The Pledge of Allegience or the Star spangled Banner or just a song, I bet you can say or sing it all the way through. Go to a speech therapist, and he'll fix you right up. Good luck, kiddo!! ;) -L

Several of my uncles and cousins got help from The Stuttering Foundation and their book "Self Therapy for the Stutterer." All of them were able to overcome their stuttering after working through the book diligently step by step. One uncle also went to a speech therapist who specialized in treating stuttering; he got the referral from the Foundation. Check out their web site at www.stutteringhelp.org and look at the brochures section as well as the e-store for the book.

Yes, speech therapy will help you. Are you anxious when you speak? Do you have great ideas, and you just say it as fast as you think it. Just slow it down. maybe you are rushing yourself. Take your time, and say things slowly and concisely. But look into therapy, because you can help yourself only so much. Good luck!

hello!... im worst than you are... :) but i have some tips for you. if you love to sing, record your voice and listen to it... choose a fast kind of songs... listen to your voice and look for ways to improve it... or you record your voice while reading... listen to your voice... make some ways to improve it the way you like it... it works... and also, spend some time talking to somebody you dont know over telephone, if you get nervous, its fine... you dont know who you are talking anyway. :)
