Recently it has been reported that that Brady Quinn got 24 reps with two plates at the combine--But in this test are the players required to pause with the bar motionless for a second at the bottom of each rep before lifting (as powerlifters in competition are), or are they allowed to do the whole out-of-control-negative-take-a-bounce-off-my-ribcage thing that so many people do at the gym? Because it seems like the former would be a LOT harder than the latter.

there is no pause at the end of the eccentric portion of the lift. personally I think they let too many of them use an excessive amount of momentem as there is some bouncing for many

the ex Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman did 225 for 48 reps

Pro football players are the fastest and strongest guys in the world. Virtually everything they do in the gym is to increase their explosiveness and athleticism. NFL and NCAA teams invest millions in trainers, equipment, coaches, nutritionists. I'm sure its not "out of control" stuff that most guys do in the gym. Pro football players also have a physical and mental toughness that most powerlifters will never know. An NFL player could toss any one of these powerlifters aside like a rag doll.

well alot of people at the gym are idiots... football players are training to be both strong and full of endurance... they dont have to pause but take controlled reps in which they touch their chest and then explode upwards... there weight itself in the combine is testing muscle endurance rather than maxing the amount of weight a player can put up...
