Choice or not there is nothing wrong with it so why the debate?
I like being gay and even if I was attracted to women I would still choose it.

It is all about whether being gay is a sin. Committing a sin is always about making a choice to act or be a certain way. Unfortunately for the conservatives, if it turns out that being gay is actually genetic and not a choice, then they can no longer label it as a sin. After all, if God made the person gay, what right does anyone have to judge that person for being the way God intended them to be.

I agree but I think the idea behind it is that many of these conservatives are also Christian and use their bible to justify their hate. If being Gay is not a choice and it is something you are born with then that would mean God is creating people who he knows are automatically going to go to hell which would be against the nature of an all-loving God. While if it's a choice then everything is dandy because it means God did not make them that way and they chose their "path of sin". Personally I believe that it is simply a preferance and something you are born with (much like I prefer vanilla over chocolate). I don't see why people should care so much about who you are attracted to. But then there are still many people who descriminate based on color or gender when all they have is biases, superstitions and misinformation to back up their claims. go fig......

I guess it all comes down to this: either you believe that the Bible is the Word of God or you don't. If you don't, then you won't recognize sin as sin. If you do, then you are bound to live by it. I'm not saying that homosexuality is a sin worse than any other sin, but it is a sin and is clearly stated so in the Bible. I do not support gay bashing, violence against gay people or anything of that nature. But I also do not support your "right" to push your sinful lifestyle as an acceptable alternative any more that I support any other sinful lifestyle.

It is naturally disordered in that the union of two men or two women could never procreate.

I've always thought that perhaps if the Conservatives had to accept that people are born gay, then they would have to change their views on the Bible. Because so many of them take the Bible literally, you see what a problem this poses for them religiously. Personally, I see nothing wrong with being gay, and I'm a Christian. I believe God made each and every one of us the way that we were supposed to be. And that is that.

I don't use that argument. To me it doesn't matter. I believe sin is inherent in our nature, so if someone says they were born gay it means nothing more to me than if someone was to say "I was born sinful". Its all the same, and either way, whatever your or my intentions, we are all responsible for our sins. Gandhi needs redemption from his sins just as much as Hitler. You need redemption just as much as me. Paul needed redemption just as much as that actor who was fired from Grey's Anatomy.

But for the record, though I would never support homosexuality, I am sorry for the discrimination you face and regardless of how I view homosexuality, if someone tried harming you I would defend you all the way. No matter how immoral I think homosexuality is, I would never want anyone to lay a hostile finger on you, nor for you to be legislated against.

Edit: Randy G, people do NOT switch their sexuality and bisexuality IS NOT ABOUT NOT WANTING TO CHOOSE. being bisexual is JUST LIKE BEING GAY, STRAIGHT, OR PANSEXUAL. It just IS WHO YOU ARE. It means YOU LIKE MEN AND WOMEN. Ugh, GET FACTS STRAIGHT, PEOPLE, GET THEM STRAIGHT. T____T

Well, you see, if it was genetics or it wasn't a choice to be gay then you couldn't be held accountable for sinning against God. If you were just made that way it wouldn't be your fault.

Because conservatives aren't content with living their own lives according to their own beliefs and their own orientation. They feel that they also need to impose their version of right and wrong on everyone else. The rest of us (liberals, gays, non-Christians) apparently aren't allowed to think or live differently.

Actually, it is gay rights activists who try to insist that homosexuality must be genetic, and therefore cannot be helped.

But common sense implies that this cannot be true in every case, as people switch sexual orientations sometimes, and there are also bisexual people.

I always thought if you didn't want gays to marry, then don't marry one! If you think abortion is murder than don't have one! To think that your feelings and thoughts are the only ones that matter is very arrogant.

What you do in your bedroom is nobodies concern...It is between you and God......I only have to worry about what goes on (or doesn't lately...LOL ....but I digress) in my bedroom.
