Thanks for such a good knowledge of the Bible. It suggests that you honestly want to know.
Well remember the Bible chronicles both the good and bad things pple did. Even God's pple. Nathan responded to David to go ahead and build God's temple before consulting God Himself.(2Sa 7:3 And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for the LORD is with thee.) Abraham, God's friend took Hagar(Gen 16:3 And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife). Till today Jews(Christians?) and Muslims have ongoing hostilities. So the mistakes of God's pple are not reeason to do the wrong things they did.
Polygamy is wrong because of love. God's kind of love. Tell me how a man may leave his mother and father and cleave unto his 'wives' and they become one. One in a relationship that is both caring and supportive. (Mat 19:5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh. Mat 19:4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female)
Polygamy often comes with rivalry among the wives as well as the children of each woman. Sometimes it even makes living a true life difficult. All the best

Where is it written in The Bible that everything written within it is meant to be taken as being good and/or right?
There is a LOT of "stuff" that is in The Bible that either we do not practices today, nor think, feel or believe is "a good idea".
In this day and age the reason it is "wrong" is because it is against the law.
However, I believe there is another reason why it isn't a good idea to practice -- and that reason has to do with "energy" and NOT so much about having sex inside of the marriage.
As it relates to "romantic energy" we are each given ONE unit.
Therefore, if we attempt to share this single unit with more than one person, an 'imbalance' in energy results -- and both parties are negatively affected by this imbalance -- whether they are consciously aware of the outside sharing of this energy or not!
Polygamist relationships are NOT the only relationships that can cause this to happen.
If someone who is in a monogamous relationship decides to share their one unit of "romantnic energy" without someone outside the relationship, the same kind of imbalance will occur.
No, it doesn't matter if everyone knows, agrees, volunteers, etc., the imbalance will still occur and affect everyone involved.
I watch "Big Love" as well.

I am also a huge fan of "Big Love" I dont think its nothing wrong with polygamy, only the fact that the man can be the only one sleeping around. I believe it should go both way. I dont think its right for one to do it and not the other. Being in a open marriage should be open for both partners.
So if you dont mind your many wifes going play. Then nothing is wrong with it. If you do have a problem with that dont get married and dont waste your time having people live around your dreams.
I'm not going to even get into this discussion with the bible being concern.
I hate how when people do something that they feel is morally wrong they want to quote verses in the Bible. The Bible is to contradictory for anyone to try to live there life around it.

If all parties agree to it I say more power to you.
If the state ends up supporting all the wives and children one working man can't support..... then wife number two should come with hubby getting a vasectomy.
I think women should have multiple husbands. More money in the household, limited kids with lots of fathers to raise them, a much better situation.

Morally, I have zero problem with polyamory.
I think the main problem with it (whether it's within or outside of marriage, and whether it's one woman/many men or one man/many women) is that it's human nature to be possessive and jealous. I think those relationships tend to fall apart more easily as a result. That's not necessarily a reason to avoid such relationships (who says all relationships need to be permanent and long-term?), just a consideration. And definitely could have a negative effect on children if it is a less stable relationship.
BTW, to me, the bible is a bunch of outdated rules and myths dreamed up by barbaric, primitive people to explain the universe, and which should have no bearing on our life decisions.

Nothing, as long as all of the parties are consenting adults, and any offspring are being cared for.
God commands his followers to kill people throughout the Bible (read the whole thing and see), so there's no point looking to him/it to determine what is moral.

I'm agnostic, so quoting from the Bible doesn't really do much for me. I think polygamy should be legal, as long as all partners are legally adults, consenting and they don't commit welfare fraud. I also love "Big Love." I am definitely for Polygamous and Gay marriage.

You want to be wife number not me, but if this is your likening that's your opinion, and your feelings are valid however it's against the law, and that's all that matters. here in America now in other countries it is not against the law. but Morally I don't think GOD would agree, it Say's husband love your own wives and wives love your own husbands. But good question

If you read the stories closely in the Bible...the ones who had more than one wife also had big troubles!! God's original plan was one wife...He knows best.

Jesus seemed to imply in Matthew chapter 19 that God's original intent was for there to be one husband for every one wife. He didn't actually forbid polygamy, but he seemed to suggest that it was not God's original intent.
