it's about as good as half a brick, and it weighs more.
they are hit and miss. i have the .40, and it has never reliably fed anything, and jammed constantly. i don't want to waste postage to mail it in and have it fixed.
they do have a lifetime warranty, but i'd go with something else. i've heard of people having to send them in three or four times before the gun worked.

the carbines are pretty decent though.

RE:
How good is a High Point 9mm pistol?

I have only read good reports on the .380 and 9mm models. What do not like about them is that you cannot routinely fieldstrip them and need to do some kitchen-table gunsmithing to get the slide off. I have never seen one at the range have a problem. They are an improvement over the older gun (Stallard Arms, Mansfield OH) that they replaced. The Stallard was the junk that had bad magazines and always jammed.

High Point 9mm

They are inexpensive and unrefined handguns. They are fairly reliable contrary to the assertions of some. Their weakest link is their clips. It's fairly common to require a couple of minutes to tweak the clips. Once the clips have been tweaked, they feed no problem, with no jams or misfeeds. They are also very accurate. Accuracy is typically on par with the likes of Glock and other big names; but it is no Glock.

To be absolutely clear, do not confuse the current Hi Point composite guns with their original metal guns. There is a night and day difference. Avoid their old metal guns.

Hi Point also offers better support and warrenty than any other manufacturer, plus they are a US company. They offer a no questions asked policy. If you have a problem, send it back. In 7-10 days you'll get back your fixed/repaired firearm; with an extra clip or two for your troubles.

Common problems people experience are:
o refusal to adjust their clips - they usually require minor adjustments.
o Use of Promag clips - should be avoided at all cost - they are crap
o girlie, limp wrist shooting - suprisingly common
o the gun is heavy/bulky and typically makes for a poor CCW

The pistol is a blowback design and can not be reliably shot if you have "girlie" limp wrists or grip. Having said that, women typically don't have problems if they have been taught to shoot properly. The gun's weight, which is listed as a con above, is also one of the reasons it makes for an excellent double tap weapon (reduced recoil and more accurate second shot). Accuracy while double taping is typically more accurate than Glocks; all other things equal.

You'll find that most people that hate the weapon have no actual experience with it. Worse, those that complain about it likely suffer from the above list of issues which are easily addressed. For better information go to http://hipoint.7.forumer.com. There you'll find the vast majority of users come to love their gun and enjoy it for a cheap plinker.

They are cheaply made handguns. IMO they look like crap, but a friend of my took a 40 cal for a class and said it shot pretty well....that or he was really a bad shot and the gun compensated. If you are looking for a cheap handgun I would go for a Ruger P-95 or P-97. They can run anywhere from $300 to $375.

I own 2 of their carbines, one in 9mm, one in 40sw, I will NEVER own one of their pistols, they're complete crap, but for some reason their carbines seem just fine, I bought both of mine 5 to 8 years ago and they both have had over 10,000 rounds thru them, the only issue I had was fixed by Hi-Point free of charge. If you're set on buying a HiPoint, don't get one of their crap pistols, get the carbine.I paid less than 200 dollars each for mine, I'm pretty sure they've gone up in price since i got mine.

I think they are fantastic!

I have one on my desk right now and none of my important papers it sits on have ever flown off in the breeze.

If they did I might have to strap on my Kahr, Glock or Kimber and go get them but fortunately that High Point hasn't let me down.

Seriously buy a good quality pre owned gun not a new economy model if you're on a budget.

As noted, 325 for that... the only real think HP has going for it is customer service. Call them and set it up to be returned to let them go through it. They'll fix the problems, replace the rear sight, and send you a new magazine when it comes back. You'll have to cover shipping.
