It is an account of the early church and the spread of the gospel and was written by Luke. Luke writes in third person if he was not present at the event or if it happened to someone else. The passages that are written in first person are written that way because he was part of the group that had that particular experience. Luke spent lots of time with Paul and accompanied him on some parts of his missionary journeys. He was Paul's helper and physician. there were many times when Paul was injured during these trips. Hope this helps.

Except for the introduction I do not think this is true from the top of my mind...... Luke gives an introduction about his previous letteer to Theophillus then gets into the account of what the Apostles did after Christ...... He does the same thing in his gospel, a first person introduction and then finishes in third person.

I assume that Luke wrote in first person when he wrote about things that he personally witnessed, and he wrote in third person when he was recording events told to him by another person (such as Peter).
