Peyote is the actual cactus, it can grow a pink flower on the top, its a very small cactus about the size of a tennis ball. You can cut the green plantly bit of it called the "buttons", and you can keep the root and regrow it. Peyote that people sell can take 3 years to grow from seed to mature adult. Sometimes what people do is grow it into a baby then take it from the root and graft it onto another cactus' root to speed up the growth of it. I know though that in the USA and Mexico where it naturally grows, it is getting more scarce because people are over harvesting them and they take the whole plant instead of leaving the root to regrow sometimes - greedy dickheads, why not just pick them only for their own use instead of harvesting many and selling for money..

It is illegal to own or grow them. That said they are really easy to grow, even from seed, just like so many other cacti. A sunny windowsill & some well drained soil will do it.
If you can get a plant thenm just like other cacti, water when dry, give it a good soaking then let it dry out...when it has been dry for a while water it again thoroughly.

It will need a dormant period (as with most succulents) in the winter where you would give it longer periods of dryness in the winter between watering.

As for starting from seed they are pretty easy. Sow on a reasonably well drained soil, keep moist until seedlings come up then water every couple of days for the first few months, gradually reduce water. Do not separate them from the pot until they are starting to really crowd each other, cacti like to be rootbound. After about a year they will probably need to be separated though so pot them in their own pots & treat as above.

I know nothing about the uses.....just a cactus fanatic & am only interested in them as plants.

Well i've never come into contact with the beautiful plant that is peyote. However going by cacti being the same as i grow many cacti all you need to do is put it where itll get the most light, water it weekly and use a fertilizer specifically designed for cactus and succulents. Cacti are the most carefree plants there so if you kill it shame on you.

Go on a vision quest. I inhale lacquer out of a brown paper bag and eat lead based paint chips and the answers will come . If they don't a least you can write Door's music.
