Is telling a person you are too over qualified a nice way to say, you don't have the job even though you score extremely high on all tests?

Anyone ever had that happen?

I was told that I was over qualified because of my scores, and that I should be in management and not entry level.

Yes, I am taking a lower position but this is due to the travel that I currently do right now. I travel 36 miles one way, and the place that I interviewed was only 10 miles away. I am willing to take a cut in pay and learn and grow with a new company. I said this, but I guess I didn't convince them enough.
This job would not be our main source of income. Just something extra. Maybe I should play dumb next time around.

It means that you are overqualified and they are worried that you would be bored and unhappy in that position and that you may quickly quit for those reasons or to move on to a job you are more suited to. Just keep at it and you'll find the right one.

What that means is they want someone who will stay in the position...some one who will grow into it rather than grow out of it quickly, look for a promotion, and if no promotion opportunity, leaves before a year has passed.

Some employers also fear what the don't know, for instance, why is someone with this much experience applying for a low level position. More times than not the candidate just needs to give the reason, semi-retired, in school, etc.

It means that you are still qualified for the position but they don't want to give it to you 'cuz they are afraid that once you get your foot in the door, you might take one of thier jobs away from them!

It means that they are scared that you will take their job. PLain and simple. Change you resume to read management instead onf entry level.
