I had 2 Mormon visitors today. I asked them that if the Bible and the book of Mormon did not agree on a certain subject if they would go with what the Bible said. They answered "no".
They were very friendly and did not argue points but told me they all take 2 years out of their life to go to people's houses and share what they believe. Is this really true?

Do not confuse what these two Mormon Missionaries chose to say versus any "official" church doctrine -- or what other Mormon Missionaries or "lay" members would do given the same circumstances.

I believe that their response was based upon THEIR lack of knowledge of The Bible versus their knowledge of The Book Of Mormon -- and was not meant to be taken as any "official church position" on what to do when there is a disagreement between the scriptures.

The Eighth Article of Faith states:

We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

The main thing to take away from the above is that Mormons believe that there are MORE than one inspired set of sciptures (or "God's words"). They also use "The Doctrine and Convenants" and "The Pearl Of Great Price".

The REAL question that you should have asked the Mormon Missionaries (who do, in fact, at the approx the age of 18 devote two years of their lives to proselytizing to others) is what parts of The Bible ARE translated correctly or incorrectly (as the case may be).

My point is, is that the majority of members haven't a clue as to what parts they are reading and using from the King James Bible (which yes, they prefer) are translated correctly or not.

Before the rest of you christians start to giggle, know that you don't have a clue either -- as when the translations are compared to the original Hebrew/Greek one discovers that a VAST majority of what is being used was NOT translated correctly.

So, the Mormons started out on "the right foot", but have yet to follow through all the way.

Also you question assumes that there IS or ARE parts of The Bible and The Book Or Mormon that do NOT agree.

I am not Mormon and I have yet to see any 'disagreement' between these scriptures that couldn't be linked to a mistranslation of The Bible -- or a misunderstanding of what was written or meant in The Book Of Mormon.

I personally believe that 'inspiration' (in the form of words or otherwise) can come from ANY source.

Regards,

Is what true? that they believe the book of mormon over the bible or that they take two years out of their life to share what they believe?

because the 2nd one is true. Every mormon male is expected to go on a two year mission when they are 19 to help spread their beliefs

now the first one, I would say that one is true also, because mormons believe the Bof M is the most correct book ever written ( I was told that many times) so I would assume that means they would believe it over the bible

There ARE no contradictions between the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I think that they would go with what the BIBLE says, just not with what YOU say the Bible says.

Our missionaries take that time to spread the gospel, not to argue with people. Not all Mormons go on a full time mission (two years for young men, 18 months for young women). But those that do, do it without pay, either using their own savings, or the support of teir family and/or their home wards.

I was raised Mormon, and Mormons use the King James Version of the bible along with the Book of Mormon and other books that they consider to be scripture. They don't use any other translations of the bible. Just the KJV.

Thats correct.

Mormons believe the Book of Mormon is the most 'perfect' book. While the bible has been corrupted by 'wicked' translators.

Then ask the mormon why then, the book of mormon quotes word for word the King James version of the bible, even though the book of mormon was supposedly written long before King James even lived.

(the only time I notice that there are mormons on here is when they all give me a thumbs down when I state the FACTS of mormonism.)

I don't know if they take 2 years for ministry or not but it is true that they pretty well reject the bible. I wouldn't get mixed up with them at all. They have split into 2 groups, one group consists of pedophiles hiding behind religion but the other retains only one partner. They are a white supremast group hiding behind religion. Find a nice church if you want but stay away from the sects.

They go on two year "missions" to try to proselytise non-Mormons. It used to be just young men; now I think young women do also.

Their line is, "We believe in the Bible as it is correctly translated" (by the Mormon Church).

I grew up Mormon, and yes, most of the boys went on a mission at 18. If a girl wasn't married by the time she was 21, she was sent out as well.

I know a Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who would be most interested in why they answered, "No." That is not at all the beliefs of the Mormons.

Yes, the missions do usually take 2 years. That much is true.
