purchased pairs of jeans . the jeans cost 220 US$ . how much is the import duties ?

On top of the import duties, you would be liable for use tax depending on where you live.

If it's a big ticket item (meaning a high purchase price), you have a greater chance of paying the use tax than if it was a smaller ticket item. The US Customs Service has been working with state tax departments to find people who import big ticket tiems.

If the item has a value under $50 USD there is no import duty at all.
