Not sure about Tattoos that have an African American heritage, but if you head to the library or if you do a search online you'll find a whole lot on African tattos...from Africa.
There are many African tribes that use tatoos as a right of passage from childhood to adulthood.
You know the singer Seal (marry to Heidi Klum)...the marks on his face are from his African tribe.
