I love when birds eat with their feet...can Cockatiels eat with theirs? I have had mine for about 3 years and she doesnt...can you teach them?

Im thinking eating with their feet comes natural to larger birds. Ive never seen a cockatiel do this, they dont need to. I doubt that its something you can train your cockatiel to do..of course maybe you can if youre a bird expert....with a ton of time and patience. They might use their feet to help them hold on to the food they're eating if its something big.

You can encourage your cockatiel to eat with her feet by putting vegetable and fruit pieces in her food bowl that are about the appropriate size to hold with her foot.
It may take some time, but she might learn that the easiest way to eat it is to hold it in one foot. At first she will probably drop it a lot but will eventually get better with practice.

I had one Cockatiel live for 18 years, she never ate with her feet.
I now have a three year old male, he doesn't eat with his feet.
I think they do not in their nature.

Hi there, i have one and he just turned one in May, he eats with his feet, but not all the time. It is cute when he does it, i tend to think mine is just lazy lol! I guess if you knew how to teach them you probably could. Cheers.

Most cockatiels don't, but some do! Mine never do, but my friend has one that does.

no you cant teach it. i have a cockatiel too. it dosn't eat w/ its feet. only PARROTS do. MAYBE you can teach it but it will be VERY hard.
