It takes a little time for a pup to know who their family is & learn about the home they've moved into. A flight can affect a dog you've had a long time. We had ours 3 years & after a long flight, she was a little distant. And add to that a new home with different people just makes them a little scared. Just be patient & understanding & she'll warm up. And as a side note, if you can avoid flying a pet, please do. After ours had her trip & I saw how she was treated, never again. If I don't have a choice, I'll rehome or euthanize first before I put another dog I love through that again.

Your puppy should be sign, it will only be tired. Although, if this is one of the first long car rides you've taken your dog on, be sure your dog won't develop a fear for it. If your dog is starting yo either be fearful of car rides or gets car sick, then you must show your dog that there is nothing to be afraid of and no reason to be sick. Many dogs associate car rides with something unpleasant or with previously being carsick. Reintroduce the car to the dog again slowly and in a non-stressful way. Start out by just sitting in the car with the dog. Don't go anywhere. Don't even start the motor. Just sit in there and read a book or listen to the radio. Soon the dog will realize that nothing terrible has happened and that it did not get sick. Keep doing this until the dog is obviously relaxed and not fearful. If the dog does get sick, then you've stayed too long and should begin for shorter periods. When you see that your dog is comfortable with this activity, progress a little further and start the engine, but still do not go anywhere. When the dog is relaxed with the motor running, then begin taking very short trips, perhaps just around the block.

I have a six month old pit right now that I found on the side of the road. He was hit by a car. It took me fifteen minutes at least before he came to me.

He's been with me two weeks now, and has warmed up to me completely, but he's not comfortable with other people yet.

It takes time and patience with nervous animals.

Leaver her to her own devices and whenever she comes to you, pet her and reassure you so that she feels safe with you.

It'll work eventually.

Do not coddle her, though, because that can make her protective of you, or really skittish. Either of those can lead to aggression, and you don't want that.

If, after a couple months, she still is skittish around you, get the help of a professional trainer.

Patience is the key!

Good luck.

It all depends on how she was raised. The critical socialization period for the dog is around 8-12 weeks old. If she wasn't handled well and taught not to be afraid, it may be too late at 6 months. It also depends on her inborn personality and breed. Some dogs are naturally more friendly to everyone right from the beginning. Just be patient with her, talk softly and try to encourage her to take treats from you. Give her time to come around, and hopefully she will. Contact the breeder and ask what kind of schedule she was on and what are some of her favorite things. Ask what they did to socialize her.
