The uniforms were an olive green and they wore kevlar hemets like now only without the camouflage there gear consisted of a rucksack and belt a rucksack is what is commonly known as a frame backpack they carried their gear in these as our soldiers do now You can probably go down to your local national guard armory and they can give you the info you need

Krollohar2 might be right about what they were SUPPOSED to have.

My Dad was in the Aleutians from April 42- May 44. Spent at least a year on Attu. He would have gotten a laugh out of that comment about cold weather gear, smokes, etc.

From there he went to the 80th ID. They did a lot of the lead work for the 3rd Army. He was part of the relief effort to help the 101. They were lucky to have a blanket. Toilet paper consisted of grass (frozen or not) a lot of what they ate was foraged from the locals. He did write that they got turkey on T-day 44. At that time he had rifle, ammo, overcoat, entrenching tool, some rats and blanket. Any other gear was behind them.
They did not shave, bathing was not possible unless sent to the rear, sleep was hit and miss.

descriptions can be helpful but I have found that images help also the uniforms worn in the movie saving private ryan appear to be very accurate down to insignia painted and worn on helmets also the series band of brothers is a fairly adequate source for authentic uniform images my question to you is whether you are referring to european theatre or pacific as there are some idiosyncrosis between the two that are different

Ja man,

I doubt soldiers wore 'kevlar' helmets back in WWII since Kevlar wasn't even invented until 1966!

You mean they wore steel pots.
