I can understand the name of a deceased one,or your child's name...or someone else's name, but why your own?

I think its "pride" in themselves, or possibly where they come from. I think its silly too.

I have always wondered that. What, are you going to forget? Is it so the guy/girl you just hopped into bed with knows what name to yell? I mean, why? Are you a dog? Do you need a tag with your name on it in case you get lost?

It is one of the most bizarre subject matter for a tattoo I can concieve of, and yet it's surprisingly common.

The 81 yr old lady on Miami Ink the other night said, Hurricane season was coming and she's alone so, in case of emergency she wanted her body to be identified....she was so cool.

My husband has my name tattooed on his back...I call it his "tramp stamp" and he HATES that. He has had it for 14 years now. I tell people that I had to put my name on him so that people would know who he belongs to since he is so good looking!

As for why people put their own names on themselves...I think they are really impressed with themselves.

I guess for the same reason people wear shirts with their names on them.

i dont get it neither, i was in the mall once, and this girl had a tattoo on the lower part of her back, (it said ashley) boys were calling her like they knew her, and then looked away as if it wasnt them. it was funny. i would never get my name tattooed on myself.

They like their name maybe...and it's a whole lot safer than having anyone else's permanently attached.

Maybe if they end up washed up on a shore or something, they won't be a Jane/John Doe, their ID would be on them? I dont know.

if it's a name that runs in the family, then i can understand. my brother has our last name tattooed REALLY big down his side, like right on his rib. it's our last name, and it's "important" to him. i think it's stupid and i wouldnt do it, but whatvever floats your boat.
