For a 14-year-old who needs to pull out 4 teeth (2 on top and 2 on bottom), Would the braces be well done by a general dentist? Leave any effects? Please help. Thank you.

I wouldn't recommend having braces by a general Dentist. They go and get certificates to be able to do it but it's not what they have their degree in, and it's not what they specialize in. I haven't heard good reports about this situation. Orthodontists go to extra school to perfect orthodontics. That's why they are Orthodontists. Not Dentists who do braces.

There are a lot of general dentists that do orthodontics. I can't vouch for how well they all do them. An orthodontist trains for extra time to specialize, so I would say they should know more about it than a general DDS. I doubt the price would be significantly different, so why not go to the person that specializes? I have seen a lot of ortho cases that were not handled well by general dentists. Sometimes an orthodontist will manage to straighten the teeth without taking any out. Taking teeth out is not always the best solution.
Let me put it this way, I work in the dental field and I took my daughter to an orthodontist for her braces.

A true orthodontist would say NO. If the general dentist is certified in Ortho and is staying up on new technology and has the office running efficiently, he probably could do a good job. I would get a second opinion though about the extractions. Some orthodontists don't recommend it or feel it is necessary. Get a second opinion from a true specialist and compare the treatment. I've seen many patients over the years after having extractions for ortho and I think it made their profile flat. My sister is one of them. The money you will spend is worth more than one persons opinion.

A general dentist? Well ive only ever heard of orthodontists doing braces. General dentists do teeth pulling fine but I think you should definately consider an orthodontist for braces before a dentist. It may not be as well done or you may have some complications with wires. Just do some research and talk to your dentist and/or parents about it. :)

Well, for me my dentist is also an orthodontist, so he can do both braces and reg. teeth work. I also needed 4 teeth pulled, and he did that and it was fine, considering:) Just make sure your dentist is certified to be doing that type work, and if he is go for it.

maximum customary dentists who be attentive to the thank you to do orthodontics are familiar with useful orthodontic concepts and can for this reason preclude TMJ from coming up of their sufferers. classic orthodontists, on the different hand, are taught concepts that are old and archaic. Many are taught to extract bicuspids and this has been shown to reason TMJ issues as properly as worsen the facial profile. inspite of the undeniable fact that, not all customary dentists are stable at what they do the two so which you may desire to ask your dentist approximately his journey and if he/she is familiar with the thank you to handle TMJ. There are some customary dentists who stick to the comparable scientific care concepts as classic orthodontists and that's not a stable factor. merely because of the fact a dentist is an orthodontic professional does not inevitably mean that they are extra suitable. as a rely of certainty, very few classic orthodontists be attentive to the thank you to handle TMJ and various of alternative certainly reason this difficulty of their sufferers.

i have never heard of a regular dentist doing orthodontic work, it was thru my dentist that i was recommended that my children see the orthodontist, they will work hand in hand with each other, especially since most children need to have some teeth pulled, to make room for there adult teeth and braces, i personally woudl only recommened going to a speciallist, also keep in mind your insurance may only cover braces when done by a orthodontist, for examplw when my regular dentist saw that my sons had no rooom in there jaw for there wisdom teeth, he then referred us to see a oral surgeon, who sprecializes in the removal or teeth, good luck and i hope your child will have a beautiful smile

A regular dentist is not allowed to perform orthodontic procedures. He may pull teeth in preparation, but not install hardware.
