im working as a nanny/live in caregiver here in Calgary for 4 months now, i want to visit my friend in Washington USA, what kind of visa should i apply for? or am i allowed to go visit my friend? how long it will take to apply for a visa if ever,and what are the requirements?

If you have a Canadian or European passport you may be in the Visa Waiver Program, otherwise you have to apply for tourist visa.
If you have to apply for a tourist visa and you are a new immigrant in Canada for only four months, you have a chance to be turned down.
I know new comers to Canada to be refused because they were in Canada for less than one year.

Are you a Canadian citizen or a citizen of where? if you are a Canadian I believe all you need is a passport if its just for a tourist type of visit.

You don't need any paperwork, just cross the border. They'll ask you why you're coming into the country and ask what you're bring across the border.
