In Matthew 12 Jesus makes this statement:
31And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
Since Jesus and the Holy Spirit are both sort of the same thing, (ie. both parts of the trinity), why would it be forgivable to blaspheme against Jesus but not forgivable to blaspheme against the Holy Spirit?
In fact, even if they weren't the same thing, why would this be the case? Is there something special about the Holy Spirit that we don't know about?

Great question; however I completely disagree with you that Jesus and The Holy Spirit are -- or are sort of the same thing.
Basically, Jesus (like The Bible, Pope, pastor, etc) is the "voice of God" withOUT -- and therefore, "not God".
The Holy Spirit is the "voice of God" withIN -- and as such is the "true voice".
Hint: This is what is "special" about the Holy Spirit that most do not know about.
Also, ask yourself this. Do you consider yourself to have a "spirit" (within) -- or as some might refer to it as "the divine spark", etc.?
If this "spirit" (or whatever you wish to call or consider this to be), is "from God", then would you not consider it to be "holy"?
Therefore, each of us literally possesses "a holy spirit" withIN us.
It is THIS "holy spirit" (within) that communes with The Holy Spirit" -- hence, the "inner voice", "the still small voice" is what one must avoid 'blaspheming' against.
Finally, some worry about "blaspheming" or having "blasphemed" against the HS; however, if you have ONE SINGLE THOUGHT towards helping, assisting or loving another human being, then you have NOT crossed that 'magical point' spoken of in scripture.
Regards,

The unpardonable sin is not a kind of sin. It is a degree of sin. The person refuses to repent. They close their mind to the influence of the Holy Spirit. It is a state of open rebellion in which the promptings of the Holy Spirit are first ignored, then resisted, and finally rejected totally until they are no longer perceived. That is why it cannot be forgiven. The primary function of the Holy Spirit is to reprove the world of sin. (John 16:8) If He is rejected then He is grieved. (Eph.4:30)

Very good question. You must ask the holy spirit to Guide you to that answer. to Blaspheme the holy ghost would mean to credit the miracle works that Jesus was performing, to that which are from the spirit of God to, Satans credit ( the evil one.) the Pharisees said that Jesus was working with Satan. which is a very bad thing. Jesus was working by the holy power of our righteous God. Not by the power of Satan. Satan is bad . Jesus was just waring people because that is a sick and twisted sin. God would not use miracles of god for evil

Because Jesus was in the flesh, the Holy Spirit that possessed him was God, you can question the intent of someone and be wrong, but to question God himself is a sin that can only be forgiven by God himself.

This is one of those fine points you can argue forever.
If you understand how the books of the Bible were written,
there would be no need to ask this question.
It is highly unlikely that Jesus himself said those exact words.
It's more likely that they were added as a commentary later.
And the next time the text was copied, they were included.
There are thousands of such examples of this process.
Modern translations try to use the oldest copies known.
But copying by hand was not an exact operation.
