I have a lot of bird seed around for my pet birds and these moths come out of the sacks of bird seed.
I would like suggestions of non chemical solutions. If I spray chemicals ~~~ it could affect my cockateils, love birds and finches.

DON'T use chemicals, as they can harm your bird! If you have dusty seed, then throw it out as it is no longer good because the moths have invaded them. If your seed is still whole but you see moths, stick them in the freezer for a day or so. That will kill any moths or moth eggs in the seed. As for storage, in order to prevent seed moths, store seed in a sealed container. Many seed packages come in resealable bags, but they are unreliable, so I would stick the sealed bag in a tupperware for added protection. If you have many birds and buy your seed in bulk, then you can freeze the seed you are not using. It will not hurt the nutritional quality of the seed and it usually lengthens the shelf life of the seed.
Oh, I would not use candles as mentioned below because some tealight wicks contain lead which can be very harmful to a bird's sensitive lungs. :)

This happens occasionally with dog food too. The best non-chemical solution I have found to the problem is this: First thing you want to do is place your bird seed into separate containers, if you find one is contaminated - simply toss it and save the rest. Second thing: after night falls, fire up several tea light candles and turn ALL of your artificial lighting off - the flame from the candles will attract the moths and the wax will trap them. This method is far less messy than a bug zapper and just as effective. Just be sure to place your candles away from combustibles!

These little seed moths are harmless and quite common. Just put your new bag of seed in the freezer overnight and it will kill any moth larvae.
