I have found a really good Sloppy Joe recipe:
1 pound Hamburger
1 medium onion, chopped (my family hates onions, so I don't use them)
2 TBSP butter
2 TBSP vinegar
2 heaping TBSP brown sugar
1 cup Ketchup
1 cup Water
1/2 tsp salt
2 TBSP Worchestshire sauce
Brown Hamburger with onion (if you like). Drain. Add remaining ingredients and simmer until thick, about 15 to 20 minutes. Spoon mixture onto toasted hamburger buns.
This is so close you can almost see the hair nets...lol

Pretty sure that they used to brown ground beef and then just add some kind of jar sauce. Try it with Francesco Rinaldi Marinara (original). I used to love the school sloppy joes too and when I make this it reminds me of theirs. Mmmm, now I'm in the mood for it.

Try 1lb ground beef add ketchup to get the right color. Add about a tablespoon of mustard about 3 of vinegar. Chop 1 onion. salt, teaspoon of brown sugar and simmer for 30 minutes. Amounts can be varied to get the exact taste and smell you like, but this is a good basic recipe. I like to add a bit of chili pepper to mine and a jalapeno pepper.

You can buy the Manwich sauce at the grocery. Should be in the same aisle as the spaghetti sauce. Just add cooked & crumbled hamburger! :)
