I don't if I go in and get it, but if it's curbside pickup, I usually give a buck or two.

To be honest -it kind of depends on the resturaunt and how poor I am at any given moment. But then again if I HAVE money to go into a nice place and order out then yeah I will leave a tip. Just a nice thank you. Not as much as I would a delivery guy to my house, that would be 5-7 plus $. But at a taco bell, when I am really poor (the reason I am going there in the first place) probably not. A local place with a tip jar? I would be embarrassed not to leave a tip.
Bottom line...I wish I always had the money to leave generous tips for everyone!!! When I don't, I stay away from the places I should. UGH!!!! That leaves me at home doesn't it????

A tip is an extra "bonus" you give someone if they go OVER and ABOVE the normal service they provide. So if you order take out and they have it ready really quickly or pack in extra napkins or do something that is over and above their job, then you can feel free to tip. Otherwise, you are under no obligation to tip.

If you are in a restaurant and you have someone waiting on you and you order food to go, if you leave a tip, it should be based on the bill for the food you ate while you were there, not on the total including the take out.

If you have to get out of your car, go in, order the food and take it home yourself, what is the service you would tip for? It's their JOB to hand the food over the counter and take your money. There is no extra service being provided that merits a tip.
If they offered to carry it out to your car or deliver it for you...that's a service you can tip for.

I tip 5%. They have to do the work of boxing the food instead of serving it.

It depends on the service. The server still interacts with you - they can be polite, prompt and courteous or be a bit rude or uncaring. If they are kind, I tip, but less than I would have for sit-down. If they aren't great, they get no tip.

I would say no... I never do.. I;ve heard once before that you "should" but I see no point in it if the bar tender isn't doing anything... having worked in restaurants before to go food is often brougtht out by a runner or someone in the kitchen and the bar tender just takes the money from ya to pay for it.... so my vote is no...

I'll give 'em a dollar.... Two if it's curbside pickup. UNLESS it's the host/hostess/mananger who takes care of me - they make much more than the waitstaff does, so they don't get a tip.

If it is a nice restraunt, it is polite to leave a tip, but a fast food one is not really worthy of leaving one!
